These days, the weather in Quang Binh is turning cold, in the fields, farmers still have to go out to plant rice to keep up with the season, some people work as hired laborers earning nearly 500,000 VND/day.
According to Dan Viet newspaper's reporter, in the fields of Quang Trach district (Quang Binh province), in the cold weather, farmers are still diligently planting rice in time for the season.
In the rice fields, farmers wear many layers of clothes, boots, and cover their faces to keep their bodies warm. In particular, they must wear raincoats outside to avoid drizzle.

The rice planter, with one hand holding a bundle of seedlings, the other hand quickly separates each rice plant and then sticks it deep into the mud. To make it easier to plant rice, many people also make a long stick with 3 small iron prongs at the end, then stand up straight to plant, without having to bend over.

According to local people, this is the peak time for spring rice planting in Quang Binh. Households with large areas or few workers have to hire people to plant and pay from 300,000 to 500,000 VND/person/day.
Talking to Dan Viet newspaper reporter, Ms. Phan Ly (in Quang Luu commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province) said: "On the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, I went to plant rice. After finishing planting 6 sao of rice for my family, I started to go to work for hire. While planting rice in the field, my phone often received calls for hire. To conveniently contact people in need, I created a chat group on Zalo and posted an announcement there so that everyone could proactively go work for hire."
Farmers who work as hired laborers often bend over and use their hands to plant rice seedlings in the mud to speed up the process. Some days, one person receives nearly 500,000 VND in wages. Photo: Tran Anh
"Each day, a hired rice transplanter can receive from 300,000 to 500,000 VND depending on the form of daily labor or contracted rice field. However, contracted rice transplanters must work more and the work is more difficult," said Ms. Ly.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (in Quang Phuong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province) said: "After Tet, I went to the field to plant rice with my wife. Seeing her bending over all day, I couldn't help it. I made a stick with 3 small iron rods attached to the end to pull out the seedlings and plant them in the soil on the field. This planting is a bit slow but it saves my back pain."
Not only women, many men also go to the fields to plant rice in time for the growing stage. Photo: Tran Anh
