Van Yen focuses on caring for the spring rice crop.

In the spring of 2025, Van Yen district planted 2,960 hectares of rice. These days, farmers are focusing on tending to the spring rice crop across the fields, from highland communes such as Lang Thip, Phong Du Thuong, Xuan Tam… to lowland communes such as Dai-Phu-An, Dong Cuong, An Binh...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh from Trung Tam village, An Binh commune, shared: "This year's spring rice crop, my family planted all 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) with Nghi Huong 305 rice variety. After planting, I always paid attention to maintaining sufficient water levels and proactively applied base fertilizer, first top dressing, and removed golden apple snails... so now the rice is lush and green, covering the entire field and tillering strongly. To minimize pests and diseases affecting the growth and development of the rice plants, I also sprayed pesticides to control diseases such as bacterial blight, blast, leaf roller, planthoppers, and mites. At the same time, I prepared nitrogen and potassium fertilizers so that when the rice plants are strong and heading, I can apply the final top dressing to ensure the rice plants have enough nutrients to nourish the panicles and achieve the highest possible yield and quality."

In addition, although the rice planting in the highland communes started later, the rice plants have basically recovered their green color, begun to tiller, and farmers are currently applying the first round of fertilizer.

In the fields of Phong Du Ha commune, Ms. Luong Thi Xuyen said: "Here, the weather is colder than in the district, so we plant later. Currently, the rice is entering the rooting and tillering stage, so I am weeding and stirring the mud to prevent root suffocation. These days, the transitional weather is favorable for pests and diseases to thrive, so along with fertilizing and weeding, I also focus on checking for pests and diseases to detect them early and apply timely and appropriate control methods for high efficiency."

Since the majority of the population relies primarily on agricultural production, Van Yen district always focuses on directing departments, agencies, mass organizations, and localities to implement the best solutions for caring for and protecting crops to ensure the local grain production. With 2,960 hectares of spring rice in 2025, to ensure an average yield of over 56.8 quintals/hectare and a total production of over 16,815 tons as planned, immediately after planting, Van Yen directed the district's agricultural sector to proactively guide farmers in implementing pest and disease control measures and cultivation techniques.

In addition to directing specialized agencies to strengthen the management of agricultural supplies quality, the District People's Committee directed the agricultural sector to assign officials and extension workers at the grassroots level to coordinate with localities to proactively disseminate information, mobilize, and guide farmers on the techniques of using fertilizers and pesticides; to recognize some signs of rice plant infestation, and to identify types of pests and diseases in order to use appropriate control measures, achieving high efficiency and minimizing the impact on the growth and development of rice plants.

Farmers should carefully monitor the post-transplanting stage, maintaining a shallow water level of 2-3 cm to help the rice plants quickly take root, keep the roots warm, and promote vigorous tillering. Once the rice has reached its maximum number of tillers, the water should be drained and the field dried for 5-7 days to limit ineffective tillering, before reintroducing water to nourish the panicles. Regarding fertilization techniques, to ensure good rice growth and concentrated tillering, farmers should apply topdressing fertilizer when the weather is warm, with temperatures above 15°C, and divide it into three applications according to the schedule.

With the involvement of the entire political system and the proactive efforts of farmers in preventing cold damage to rice seedlings, actively clearing irrigation canals to ensure water supply, and carrying out pest and disease control and fertilization, these are important prerequisites for Van Yen district to achieve an average yield of over 56.8 quintals/hectare in the spring crop of 2025, with a total production target of over 16,815 tons as planned.
