Artists need to be ready to enter the new era

Recently, musician Do Hong Quan - Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front attended the 8th Provincial Literature and Arts Association Congress, term 2025 - 2030. On the sidelines of the congress, musician Do Hong Quan took the time to share with reporters of Khanh Hoa Newspaper about some contents related to literature and arts activities in the new situation.

- In recent times, many young faces have emerged in Vietnam's cultural and artistic activities, who have explored and created works that are both culturally rich and modern, and have been positively received by audiences. Could you share your thoughts on this issue?

- In today's cultural and artistic life, many young people have a passion for and are sensitive to new information flows and trends domestically and internationally, so they have created new creations. The advantage of young people is that they are quick-witted and always want to find new things. They are also the ones who understand technology and understand the methods of producing cultural and artistic works in the digital age. Therefore, these products are easily spread among young people. In terms of topics, young artists always attach importance to content about the country, about the Fatherland, exploring current life, as well as expressing pride in the country's rise and looking towards the future.

One thing that needs to be noted, for literature and art as well as other forms of spiritual culture, is to carry the uniqueness, the special features of the voice, color, and language of one's nation, avoiding assimilation and internationalization that would lose national identity. Because if national identity is lost, the public will not be able to perceive the beauty of Vietnamese literature and art works. Therefore, each artist needs to learn a lot from folklore, from previous generations of artists to have material for creation. In particular, artists need to immerse themselves in life so that each work has the breath of life, bringing vibrations and emotions, not following temporary trends and fads. For example, recently, many singers and artists have re-sung folk songs and traditional folk music melodies in new harmonies and arrangements, which is also a way to explore and return to the past. This requires each singer and artist to have a thorough understanding of the origins of those folk songs in order to see the best and most quintessential things in them, in order to avoid formalization. Because if we only put on the folk song coat but lack the soul, even distorting and distorting the folk song, making the listeners uncomfortable, and international friends mistaking it for Vietnamese music, it is very dangerous.

- Currently, the country in general and artists in particular are facing new opportunities and fortunes. So, according to the musician, in order not to miss this, what should artists in Khanh Hoa do?

- In the current context, cultural and artistic activities are full of inspiration for innovation. It can be said that everyone is full of enthusiasm to enter a new era of the nation. However, cultural and artistic activities also face challenges and difficulties. In the context of the explosion of the 4.0 industrial revolution, with breakthroughs in the development of science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI) is brought into life; the national digital transformation has become an inevitable trend that has a profound, strong and profound impact on the cultural environment, the creative environment of cultural and artistic activities, forcing each artist to not sit still, not to stand outside of the times; each individual must innovate themselves to keep up with the pace of the times. The cultural career in general, the development of cultural and artistic activities in particular, always receives special attention from Party committees and authorities, especially in the period when the country is innovating and integrating more and more deeply into the international community as it is today. Artists of the whole country in general and Khanh Hoa in particular are always encouraged to be creative, explore, and respect creative freedom with specific mechanisms for developing literature and art, in line with the general trend of the socio-economic situation.

- According to the musician, what role does the Khanh Hoa Provincial Literature and Arts Association play in supporting members to promote their creativity?

- Through research, I learned that in recent times, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Literature and Arts Association has organized many very practical professional activities for the artists who are members of the association to create many good works of ideology and art. Among them, there are works that have won high awards domestically and internationally, contributing to the overall achievements of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations. Currently, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Literature and Arts Association has 369 members, of which about 150 are members of the Central specialized Literature and Arts Associations, 8 members have received the State Prize for Literature and Arts, 4 are People's Artists, 14 are Meritorious Artists... This is a great honor, a shining example to encourage the spirit of work and artistic creativity of the members to continue developing Literature and Arts in the new situation.

Although the cultural and artistic activities in Khanh Hoa province still face difficulties, in general, there have been many improvements. To be ready to enter a new era - an era of strong development with many major policies on economic, cultural and social development of the country, including policies on cultural and artistic activities, the leaders of Khanh Hoa province need to continue to pay attention, regularly create favorable conditions, encourage creative freedom of artists so that each person can develop worthy of being a soldier on the cultural front, with many high-quality works serving the people and life. On the part of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, it is necessary to continue to thoroughly disseminate the Party and State's guidelines and policies on culture and arts to all members; closely follow the direction in performing tasks to continue to have practical and timely activities, encouraging artists to compose, perform, and research theoretical criticism. The Provincial Literature and Arts Association must truly become a strong professional political and social organization, a common home for generations of artists; the association must be a place where each member can confidently confide their thoughts, feelings and contribute their talents. The leaders of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association must also be proactive and sensitive in discovering, training, nurturing and supporting young talents to help them develop and firmly follow previous generations of artists; pay more attention to the work of going to the field to create and publish works of high value and typical of art; continue to have close links with specialized Literature and Arts Associations in the Central to expand the scope of influence of works and the position of authors... I believe that, with the strength in quantity, the spirit of solidarity, and the serious awareness of literary and artistic work, the force of artists in Khanh Hoa will continue to create new successes.
