Hai Duong Literature 50 years of innovation with the country

Over the past 50 years, Hai Duong literature has gradually developed strongly.

Continuing the generations of creation

"Vietnam is a unified country. The North and the South are one family, no imperialist force can divide that body. During the resistance war against the American imperialists, the image of the cadres from the North and the South united together, concentrating their intelligence and strength to fight for national reunification. That is the truth, the eternal sentiment expressed through the story "Two regions of love and longing"".

These are the words printed on the cover of the short story collection “Footprints” by journalist Nguyen Thanh Cai, former Director of the Provincial Radio and Television Station and former Chairman of the Hai Duong Provincial Journalists Association. “Two regions of love and longing” is a work he wrote dedicated to the Southern cadres who once worked in the North during the resistance years.

Up to now, journalist Nguyen Thanh Cai has published 16 books, including Ma Lang, Noi dat troi hoi nhau, Goc hinh... The creative material is from reality, in any of his books there is the image of resistance wars. The stories he writes always express his feelings for the Southern cadres working in Hai Duong and the deep North-South feelings during the resistance war against America to save the country...

Ms. Nguyen Hai Yen, a teacher at Gia Loc Town Secondary School, is currently a member of the Vietnam Writers Association and Head of the Literature Department (Provincial Literature and Arts Association). She started writing in 2015 in the prose genre. In 2016, she wrote her first short story, "A Human World" on the post-war theme, about how people let go of hatred that seemed to have been passed down through generations after the war.

She wrote many works related to the theme of revolutionary war, but mainly the post-war theme with the fate of people who experienced much pain and loss but were still affectionate, loyal and passionately loved their homeland and country. Some of the works include "Do Cho", "Bo Ket Ve Dong", "Khuc Lu Vuon Cu", "Doi Co Canh", "Toc Xanh, Ma Rom, Moi Hong"... Each story is about the life of a soldier, a wife or a mother of a soldier, with a sad tone but deep with warmth and love.

During the revolutionary stages, Hai Duong writers always joined the struggle to protect the Fatherland, using their intelligence to write pages of literature and art full of fighting spirit, contributing to the glorious victory of the nation. Overcoming thousands of difficulties of the subsidy period and then shifting to a socialist-oriented market mechanism, the artists accepted difficulties, sacrificed many personal interests to devote themselves to the path of creation.

The development of Hai Duong literature

After the country's reunification, in the general context of the country's literature and arts, on January 4, 1978, the Hai Hung Provincial Literature and Arts Association (now the Hai Duong Provincial Literature and Arts Association) was established with 96 members working in the fields of poetry, literature, theater, music, fine arts, architecture, and photography. To date, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association has nearly 240 members.

Ms. Nguyen Hai Yen is currently a member of the Vietnam Writers Association, Head of the Literature Department (Provincial Literature and Arts Association).

Hai Duong literature after the liberation of the South did not have novels, mainly memoirs and short stories. Some works were published in the weekly Van Nghe and introduced on the Voice of Vietnam radio. After the provincial Literature and Arts Association was established, in 1980, the association published the books "Nguyen Trai with Con Son", "Con Son Poetry" to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Nguyen Trai's birth, "Hai Duong Revolutionary Memoirs" to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Party's founding.

In addition, several poetry collections were published such as “Huong Dong”, “Lang Dat”, “Dat Nguon Nguon”. In the following years, the association continued to publish the story collection “Ngo Nha Nguoi Yeu”, the cheo script “Huong Buoi” and more than 10 other books.

In the 80s and 90s of the last century, Hai Duong gradually had authors with memoirs, novels, short stories, and poetry collections published in literary circles and published as books such as Nguyen Phuc Lai, Do Thi Hien Hoa, Nguyen Huu Phach, Ha Cu, Khuc Ha Linh, Nguyen Thanh Cai... Some authors were soon admitted as members of the Vietnam Writers Association.

Literature and art over the past 50 years have been mainly about patriotism and humanism, closely linked to the nation.

Since 2000, Hai Duong has seen many authors in different genres such as prose, poetry, memoirs, novels, and short stories. The literary sector has developed widely. Author Nguyen Thi Viet Nga has had about 20 novels, short stories, and poetry collections published and republished. Author Truong Thi Thuong Huyen has a quick approach and writes quickly, and in a short time has had many collections of short stories, memoirs, and novels published. Author Dinh Ngoc Hung has also had over 10 books published...

In the field of folk literature, many authors have done elaborate and in-depth research on folk tales, writing about villages, relics and scenic spots, traditional occupations, customs and practices, famous people, Confucian scholars, traditional occupations, researching and learning deeply about the land and people of the East.

Over the past 50 years, Hai Duong literature has gradually developed from its strength to its organization, works and achievements in all fields, making important contributions to the construction, consolidation and development of the people's spiritual life, worthy of being a team doing cultural and ideological work, contributing with the Party Committee and people of the whole province to complete political, cultural and social tasks.
