Van Dung plays the role of a 'difficult spinster' in her first movie role

After 35 years of working in the arts, Van Dung is excited and quite nervous when acting in a movie for the first time in a horror film project that is considered the "heaviest" of 2023.

The movie Ghost Dog is a project that is attracting a lot of attention from audiences. This is the debut film of young director Luu Thanh Luan (director Vo Thanh Hoa is the producer), inspired by the folk ghost story "dog wearing a hat", talking about karma in the interactions of a family that has been trading dog meat for many years.

On social networks, many viewers believe that Ghost Dog is the most intense Vietnamese horror film of 2023 because of its thrilling and creepy level beyond the viewers' imagination.

The film brings together a cast of actors with good acting skills such as Quang Tuan, People's Artist Kim Xuan, Quoc Quan, Van Dung, Nam Thu... Notably, this is also the first time "Health God" Van Dung appears in a film project.

"Ghost Dog" brings together a cast of talented actors.

In the film, Van Dung plays Thuy, an old, unmarried woman with a stubborn personality. Although she is a comedian, the female artist has also taken advantage of many of her strengths in her first film. Many viewers commented that Van Dung's acting "acted as if she wasn't acting".

Talking about her first time acting in a movie, Van Dung shared: “Even now, standing here, I still feel nervous. This is the first time in 35 years that I have made a movie. Although it is very late, this is my lifelong dream. What is more special is that I get to make a movie with a young crew, they are very talented and sensitive to the market.

Moreover, this is also a project that brings me a lot of joy when working with the actors from the South. At first, I was worried and stressed, but when working, we became closer and understood each other better. I have never cried in front of a crowd, but I cried when filming ended. Because I truly consider everyone as a family."

Van Dung has an impressive role in her first movie.

At a time when many horror films were released at the same time, Ghost Dog still stood out because of its story with strong Vietnamese colors. Without trying to scare with noise, screaming or rolling eyes, the film leads viewers into the story, together to find out the cause of the tragedy and then gradually resolve it.

Talking about taking inspiration from folklore in creating the film script, creative director and production director Vo Thanh Hoa said: “Vietnamese folklore is a valuable treasure that needs to be exploited. Furthermore, we hope to be able to exploit many social issues. The film is our experiment in using the concept of borrowing folk spirituality into a social film to delve into the painful realities of life."

Director - producer Vo Thanh Hoa revealed: "The film Quy Cau is a project that paves the way for a series of film projects that we have been nurturing for the past 3 years, including 3 different parts with horror themes combined with mysterious folk elements, carrying a positive message, and will continue to be released in the coming years".

Ghost Dog has early screenings on December 23, 24, 25 and will start showing from December 29, 2023.
