Van Don improves people's income.

Việt NamViệt Nam13/08/2024

Over the years, Van Don district has effectively implemented many socio-economic development solutions, actively promoting and mobilizing the people to play a leading role in agricultural development and the construction of new rural areas. As a result, people's lives have improved significantly, and the number of well-off households has increased.

Van Don District aims to become a town by 2025 and a city by 2030.

The family of Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa (village 11, Ha Long commune) has been growing vegetables and flowers for many years. Due to a lack of arable land, their income was very low in the past. Implementing the New Rural Development program, from 2014 to the present, the family has rented over 1,000 square meters of abandoned agricultural land to grow various types of flowers and vegetables.

Intercropping multiple types of crops on the same plot of land has helped the family maximize the use of agricultural land, save on weeding and soil improvement, increase biodiversity, limit insect and pest damage to crops, thereby improving production efficiency and income. After deducting expenses, the family earns a profit of 400-500 million VND per year.

Income from growing flowers and vegetables has helped Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa's family (village 11, Ha Long commune) to live a comfortable life.

In 2018, the family of Ms. Dinh Thi Lam (Khe Mai village, Doan Ket commune) renovated more than 3 hectares of mixed orchard land to plant fruit trees. To date, the family has 1,200 dragon fruit trees, 1,000 guava trees, and 500 myrtle trees. Thanks to proper organic farming techniques, all the crops have yielded high-quality, high-yield harvests that are popular with customers.

Recognizing the potential for agricultural tourism and its alignment with current trends, in 2023, Ms. Lam invested in several homestays near her orchards. She also collaborated with members of the Khe Mai Xanh Cooperative, where she serves as Deputy Director, to expand the experiential tourism area and supply agricultural products. As a result, Ms. Lam and the cooperative members not only generated revenue from tourism but also sold their produce directly from the orchards, boosting sales with better yields and prices. In 2023, the family's orchard sold over 10 tons of various fruits. In 2024, the projected yield is expected to increase further, reaching an estimated 15 tons.

Tourism combined with agriculture is becoming a popular direction for many orchard owners in Van Don district.

Improving the income and living standards of the people is one of the important goals that Van Don district always pays attention to and focuses on implementing.

The district has mobilized all resources and diversified investment forms to develop a synchronous and modern socio- economic infrastructure system, focusing on transportation, services, and tourism infrastructure to create momentum, attract investment, and promote regional linkages. The entire district currently has nearly 100 hectares of fish farming and 3,300 hectares of marine aquaculture. The district also encourages units and businesses to boldly invest in, produce, and deeply process aquatic products. Currently, the entire district has 11 units and establishments participating in the OCOP program with 43 products, of which 19 products have been awarded stars.

As a locality with great potential for tourism and service development, the district has focused on developing cultural tourism models associated with marine and island ecotourism, creating more jobs and stable income for people in rural areas. By the end of 2023, the average per capita income in the district reached...   155.5 million VND .   The entire district no longer has any poor or near-poor households according to national and provincial criteria.

To further increase people's income, the district is actively implementing construction projects.   Pilot project for developing the night-time economy in the area during the period 2023-2025 .   The focus is on five service sectors: cultural and artistic performances; shopping and nighttime entertainment; sports, healthcare, and beauty; nighttime sightseeing and tourism; and nighttime culinary culture and food services.
