In recent years, Van Don district has effectively implemented many socio-economic development solutions, actively propagandized and mobilized people to promote their role as the main subject in agricultural development and new rural construction. Thanks to that, people's lives have been increasingly improved, the number of well-off households has been increasing.

Van Don district strives to become a town by 2025 and a city by 2030.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa's family (village 11, Ha Long commune) has been growing vegetables and flowers for many years. Due to lack of land for production, the family's income was very low in the past. Implementing the new rural development program, since 2014, the family has rented more than 1,000m2 of abandoned agricultural land to grow flowers and vegetables.

Intercropping many types of crops on the same cultivated area has helped the family make the most of the agricultural land, save on weeding, improve the soil, increase biodiversity, limit insects and pests that harm crops, thereby improving production efficiency and income. After deducting expenses, the family earns a profit of 400-500 million VND each year.

Income from flowers and vegetables helps Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa's family (village 11, Ha Long commune) have a comfortable life.

In 2018, Ms. Dinh Thi Lam's family (Khe Mai village, Doan Ket commune) converted more than 3 hectares of mixed garden land to grow fruit trees. Up to now, the family has 1,200 dragon fruit trees, 1,000 guava trees and 500 sim trees. Thanks to proper organic care, all crops have yielded high yield and quality, and are favored by customers.

Realizing that tourism combined with agriculture has development prospects, in line with current trends, in 2023, Ms. Lam invested in a number of homestays next to the fruit garden, and at the same time, cooperated with members of Khe Mai Xanh Cooperative, of which she is Deputy Director, to expand the experience area as well as supply agricultural products. Thanks to that, Ms. Lam and the members of the Cooperative not only earn revenue from tourism but also sell agricultural products right in the garden, promoting consumption with better output and prices. In 2023, the output of fruits sold from her family's garden reached more than 10 tons. In 2024, the output is expected to increase, estimated at 15 tons.

Agricultural tourism is the direction of many garden owners in Van Don district.
