The official literature exam for this year's high school graduation exam has a reading comprehension section that is prose (excerpt from The River and the Generations of Water by Nguyen Quang Thieu) and a literary essay section that is poetry (an excerpt from The Country by Nguyen Khoa Diem).
New point of the exam: Requirement to write a paragraph separate from the reading comprehension text
Most students prefer reading poetry to prose. However, with this year's literature exam, the reading comprehension text has created excitement for students when doing the test because it is rich in artistic imagery when comparing artistic creation to the flow of a river.
The test is not difficult and most students will likely get above average scores. It is predicted that there will be many scores above 7 in literature this year. The anti-fail questions (from 1.0 points or less) such as questions 1 and 2 (according to the answer, the total of these 2 questions is 1.0 or 1.5 points) in the reading comprehension section are very clear, candidates just need to stick to the text to write them down.
Candidates discuss their work after the literature exam on the morning of June 27.
Question 1 (write a paragraph of about 200 words) of the writing section is not much different from the sample test. The requirement to discuss “the meaning of respecting individuality” is also a familiar type of question for students. The novelty of this paragraph writing requirement is that it is completely separate from the reading comprehension text.
Unlike the 2023 exam, there is an additional integration between reading comprehension and writing a paragraph: "From the content of the excerpt in the reading comprehension section, please write...". This requirement helps candidates avoid the mistake of getting too caught up in the reading comprehension, speaking according to the meaning of the reading comprehension, or reciting evidence, repeating ideas...
Teachers' comments on the 2024 high school graduation exam literature test: "Yes, but not sure to get a high score"
The literary essay question (question 2, 5.0 points) is a very academic and familiar question, most candidates are well prepared in terms of poetry analysis skills.
Two points to classify candidates
The exam has 2 clearest points to classify candidates:
One is, in sentences 3 and 4 of the reading comprehension section.
For question 3 (reading comprehension), candidates must answer the effect of the form of expression and the effect of clarifying the content and meaning of expression.
In question 4 of the reading comprehension section, candidates need to clearly state what life lessons they have learned for themselves, and must explain convincingly to get full marks.
Second, the second part of the literary essay question: "From there, comment on the combination of Nguyen Khoa Diem's emotions and thoughts expressed in the poem".
To comment on "the combination of Nguyen Khoa Diem's emotions and thoughts" requires candidates to deeply understand the excerpt "Dat Nuoc" and firmly grasp Nguyen Khoa Diem's lyrical poetic style...
Overall, the essay is quite good, relatively light, has classification and is suitable for 12th grade students in the final exam season according to the 2006 General Education Program.
