Axios reported that the phone call lasted about 25 minutes, during which billionaire Musk promised President Zelensky that he would continue to allow Ukraine to connect to the Starlink satellite Internet system.
Starlink is a satellite internet network developed by CEO Musk's SpaceX company, widely used by the Ukrainian military in its conflict with Russia.
In April, Elon Musk asserted that Starlink was the only communication system that could operate in Ukraine, as other methods were being jammed by Russia. "SpaceX is devoting significant resources to countering Russian jamming. This is a very difficult problem. They have successfully disabled all other communication systems in Ukraine, except Starlink," American billionaire Elon Musk wrote on social media on April 25.
The world's richest man played a major role in the Republican Party's election campaign. He won big with the "American Election Project" when he spent more than $130 million to help Mr. Trump win the race to the White House. Mr. Donald Trump said he planned to put billionaire Musk in a number of advisory roles in the upcoming government.
Axios said that Musk's participation in the call could indicate the extent to which the businessman will play a role in the Trump administration in the future. Musk did not comment on this information.
Meanwhile, commenting on social network X about the announcement of President-elect Trump's plan for Ukraine, billionaire Musk expressed his belief that the conflict in Ukraine will soon end thanks to the plan of the incoming boss at the White House.
"The senseless killing will soon end. There is no time for those who profit from this conflict," the world-famous businessman, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX posted a comment on November 8.
"I confirm that," an unnamed official in the Ukrainian presidential office said when asked about the information published by Axios . Another senior Ukrainian source said that billionaire Musk was sitting next to Mr. Trump during the call.
"Mr. Musk did not connect to the call, but President-elect Trump directly handed him the phone. They were at the same location. President Zelensky thanked Mr. Elon Musk for Starlink, they had a brief conversation," the source added.
Previously, the Wall Street Journal quoted an anonymous source as saying that the transition team of US President-elect Donald Trump had put forward many ideas to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict, including Ukraine pledging not to join NATO for 20 years in exchange for continued US military support for Kiev.
Under that plan, the front line would remain in place and both sides would agree to a demilitarized zone (DMZ) nearly 800 miles long. A peacekeeping force would be deployed to the DMZ, but there would be no American involvement, three sources close to President-elect Trump said.
"We can provide training and other assistance but the guns will be European. We are not sending Americans to maintain peace in Ukraine. We are not paying for it. Let the Poles, the Germans, the British and the French do it," the source said.
President-elect Donald Trump's transition team has not yet commented on the related information.
For his part, Mr. Trump declared that the US would continue to support Ukraine, but the topic of the incoming boss's "peace plan" at the White House was not discussed during the phone call.
“Nothing that (President) Zelensky and his aides heard from Trump and his team should have raised concerns or a sense that Ukraine would pay a price,” Axios wrote.
Mr. Trump has repeatedly stated that he could resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours of his re-election. He said that, even before entering the White House, he would call Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to ask them to end the conflict.
Meanwhile, Russian President Putin this week congratulated Trump on his election victory in a speech at the Valdai Club, but said he would not call the newly elected US president. The Russian president also praised Trump as “courageous” for his strong rise after the assassination attempt at a campaign rally in July.
For his part, Mr. Trump affirmed that he would call the Russian leader at the appropriate time. According to the Kremlin spokesman, the two leaders could talk before Mr. Trump takes office.
