Lychee is one of the most popular crops in Vietnam. The lychee harvest season in our country usually runs from May to July. Besides the common lychees priced from 30,000 to 50,000 VND/kg sold in markets and supermarkets, there are also some special varieties that command significantly higher prices and are always out of stock due to limited supply.
Special white egg-shaped fabric
The white egg-shaped lychee is a special variety that is rarely grown. Even many people in Hai Duong may not have had the chance to taste this unique type of lychee.
The white egg-shaped lychee variety, harvested earliest in Thanh Ha (Hai Duong), the lychee capital, commands a very high price, ranging from 70,000 to 90,000 VND/kg at the orchard. The egg-shaped lychee fruit is the largest among all lychee varieties currently available.

Because it is a rare type of lychee, every time the fruit ripens, customers from all over the provinces flock to Thanh Ha to buy it as gifts, causing many orchard owners to not have enough stock to sell to customers.
The reason Thanh Ha white egg-shaped lychees are so expensive is because few people grow them and the trees are difficult to care for. As an early-ripening variety, the trees' flowering and fruiting depend heavily on the weather. If it gets too cold or there's no rain, the fruit set rate will be low.
Pink egg-shaped fabric from Phu Cu
At some organic food stores in Hanoi , Phu Cu (Hung Yen) pink egg lychees are currently priced at 185,000 - 190,000 VND/kg, with a 5kg box costing 880,000 - 920,000 VND.

The Phù Cừ egg-shaped lychees are larger than chicken eggs, with thick flesh, a rich, sweet aroma, and, notably, are free from insect damage. According to sellers, these egg-shaped lychees are rare and expensive due to their exceptional taste. Furthermore, because of their limited quantity and high price, these egg-shaped lychees are primarily given as gifts.
Many growers say that even before harvest, traders come directly to the orchards to place orders. The lychees are sold as soon as they are harvested, and at times there isn't enough to meet demand.

Seedless lychees in Bac Giang
After a period of testing, in the 2022 lychee season in Bac Giang, some seedless lychee trees bore fruit, producing large, beautifully colored fruits with thick flesh and a sweet taste.

This is the result of four years of grafting and care by Mr. Vi Van Hieu (Ha Long village, Lam Son commune, Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province), who has nearly 20 years of experience in growing lychees.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Hieu said that seedless lychees are cared for like traditional lychees, are not affected by stem borers, and the fruit is delicious, sweet, and has thick flesh. In the first year of selling them on the market, Mr. Hieu's seedless lychees were well received by many customers. He quickly sold out 100 kg at a price of about 100,000 VND/kg. Many places inquired about buying them, but he didn't have enough to sell.
