According to BBC, Gino Mader collided with Ineos Grenadiers rider Magnus Sheffield as they were descending the Albula pass. Gino Mader plunged into a ravine and lay motionless on the spot. Immediately after the collision, the Tour de Suisse 2023 Organizing Committee had to mobilize a helicopter to take Gino Mader to the hospital. Fortunately, after receiving first aid, the rider regained consciousness a few hours later. Meanwhile, Magnus Sheffield suffered quite serious head injuries and bruises on his arms and legs. He also had to give up and was taken to the hospital by helicopter for monitoring.

At the end of stage 5 of the 2023 Tour de Suisse, the Bahrain Victorious team shared about Gino Mader's situation. They said that Gino Mader had deviated from his lane while going downhill, and his lack of speed control made the collision between him and Magnus Sheffield more serious.
Bahrain Victorious Racing Team said: “Gino Mader fell into a ravine after veering off the track. When paramedics arrived, Gino Mader was unresponsive. He was treated at the scene and then airlifted to hospital. We will update you with the exact outcome of the accident once Gino Mader has been further assessed.”
Helicopters were dispatched to the scene of the collision.

At 26, Gino Mader has established himself as one of the top riders in Swiss cycling. In 2021, he won stages at the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de Suisse.
