In the first 9 months of 2023, there were 8,335 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 4,765 people and injuring 5,802 people; 33 provinces and centrally-run cities had a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2022. In particular, the number of traffic accidents caused by drivers violating alcohol concentration regulations during peak periods decreased sharply compared to previous years. In addition, the number of traffic jams at toll stations decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2022 after the implementation of non-stop toll collection nationwide; violations of vehicle overloading and vehicle body extensions in localities have been fundamentally handled.

Regarding the tasks for the last months of 2023, the National Traffic Safety Committee requests the Traffic Safety Committees of provinces and cities to advise the Provincial People's Committees to issue a plan to implement Resolution No. 149/NQ-CP of the Government on the Action Program to implement Directive No. 23-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in ensuring traffic safety and order in the new situation. Pay attention to developing traffic infrastructure and protecting traffic safety corridors, focusing on regularly checking compliance with business regulations and conditions for transport business in the road and inland waterway sectors.
