Prioritize supporting Vietnamese women to access and apply digital technology and artificial intelligence

On March 4, in Hanoi, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh received Ms. Caroline Nyamayemombe, Chief Representative of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Vietnam and Ms. Michaela Bauer, Deputy Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam.

Appreciating the close cooperation between UN Women and Vietnam in developing and implementing policies on gender equality and preventing gender-based violence, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and is strongly committed to ensuring gender equality and empowering women. The National Assembly and the Government of Vietnam are constantly improving the system of policies and laws on gender equality, integrating gender equality contents into the development of policies, strategies and plans for socio-economic development.

On January 1, 2025, Vietnam officially began its term as a member of the UN Women Executive Council for the 2025-2027 term. Vietnam will actively contribute to the process of developing programs and plans for UN Women to better meet the common goals of United Nations member countries, especially the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and documents of the Future Summit.

Vietnam has also made great progress in increasing the participation of women in leadership and management positions, with the proportion of female National Assembly deputies reaching more than 30%. However, Vietnam still faces many challenges, especially in increasing access for women, especially women and girls in rural and remote areas, to education, employment, science and technology.

Regarding her participation in the 69th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) in New York on March 10 and her speech there, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh said she will present Vietnam's concerns and proposals to promote the implementation of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in particular and the cause of gender equality and the advancement of women in general, while sharing Vietnam's achievements and experiences.

Regarding the future cooperation orientation, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh suggested that UN Women continue to cooperate closely with the Government of Vietnam, within the framework of the UN Women Vietnam Strategy for the period 2022 - 2026. In particular, continuing to promote cooperation programs and projects in Vietnam, prioritizing the contents of supporting women's access to science and technology; applying digital technology and artificial intelligence in training, improving women's capacity, creating conditions for women to access high-quality jobs; enhancing the role of women in the political, economic and social fields; supporting the implementation of the National Action Program on women, peace and security.

Regarding UNICEF, the Vice President of the National Assembly affirmed that Vietnam always values ​​UNICEF as an important development partner, having made many practical contributions to the care, education and protection of Vietnamese children over the past decades.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly suggested that UNICEF increase the mobilization of resources to support the protection and care of Vietnamese children, and implement the Sustainable Development Goals related to children; provide more support to disadvantaged localities, remote areas, and areas strongly affected by natural disasters and climate change; strengthen cooperation in policy consultation related to children as well as improve the capacity of officials working on children.

Appreciating Vietnam's efforts in prioritizing the implementation of policies, plans and programs to promote gender equality and child care, UN Women Representative in Vietnam Caroline Nyamayemombe and UNICEF Deputy Representative in Vietnam Michaela Bauer both emphasized that CSW69 is very important, marking a milestone in setting goals for gender equality and empowering all women and girls.

The UN Women Representative and UNICEF Deputy Representative believe that the Vietnamese delegation led by Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh attending CSW69 will have meetings, exchanges and discussions on issues related to gender equality in national and local governments; national action plans to end violence against women; a fair transition to a green economy, prioritizing new skills for green jobs; providing women with equal access to technology; transforming the economy, supporting women's economic empowerment...
