(Dan Tri) - Through seminars, Unilever Vietnam has spread commitments and practical actions, calling on businesses and partners to join hands to solve climate change issues, towards Net-zero.
Overview of the training workshop "Road to Net Zero Emissions".
At the training workshop "Road to Net Zero Emissions" held on February 25, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Country General Director of Unilever Vietnam shared: "Unilever Vietnam calls on suppliers to join hands in the journey towards net zero emissions. Together, we create a future where sustainability is not only an aspiration but also a reality, thereby strongly spreading commitments and practical actions to address climate change and improve the health of the planet."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Country General Director of Unilever Vietnam, spoke.
According to Ms. Van, this is a testament to Unilever's pioneering role in helping supply chain partners remove barriers, build a roadmap to reduce emissions and realize Net-zero in a practical and sustainable way.
Unilever Vietnam pioneers sustainable development
According to a McKinsey report, by 2022, an estimated 90% of corporate emissions will come from the supply chain, requiring a strategy to extend the greening roadmap to the supply chain (Scope 3) to reduce climate impact.
As a pioneer in achieving Net-zero targets in internal operations (Scope 1 & 2) from 2022, Unilever Vietnam has eliminated emissions from direct operations and converted to renewable energy.
While many businesses are still struggling with Scope 1 on the journey to achieve Net-zero by 2050, Unilever Vietnam has gone further, not only achieving internal Net-zero but also leading businesses in the ecosystem to transform together.
Net-Zero, or "Net Zero Emissions", is an environmental goal to reduce human-caused greenhouse gas emissions (such as CO2, CH4, N2O) to a level that is balanced with the Earth's ability to absorb or remove the emissions, to the point where total net emissions are reduced to zero.
The Earth is already about 1.1⁰C warmer than it was in the late 1800s, while emissions continue to rise. To keep global warming below the 1.5⁰C target set in the Paris Agreement, the world needs to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050. Transitioning to a net-zero emissions world is one of the biggest challenges humanity faces.
Recognizing the importance of green growth, since 2021, the Vietnamese Government has approved the National Strategy on Green Growth for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
Net-zero is not the final destination

The training workshop "Road to Net Zero Emissions" was organized by Unilever Vietnam in collaboration with the British Business Association in Vietnam (BritCham) on February 25 to support partners in the supply chain in building a roadmap to reduce emissions, accelerate green transformation, and realize the Net Zero target.
The workshop once again affirmed Unilever Vietnam's pioneering role in the field of sustainable development, from greening internal operations to expanding impact across the entire supply chain.
Mr. Will Lawrenson, Deputy Consul General of the United Kingdom in Ho Chi Minh City, shared at the training workshop "Road to Net Zero Emissions".
The event was attended by Mr. Will Lawrenson, Deputy Consul General of the United Kingdom in Ho Chi Minh City, representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, along with more than 100 representatives of suppliers in Unilever's supply chain, partners and speakers.
At the workshop, businesses had access to knowledge, tools, technology and financial solutions from experts from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and leading units such as HSBC, the British Standards Institute (BSI), Marshal Green Energy, Nuoa. This is also an opportunity for businesses to find a suitable greening roadmap, from energy conversion, optimizing operations to applying emission reduction technology, contributing to the overall commitment to sustainable development of the whole industry.
The conference recognizes and honors pioneering suppliers in the green transformation process. Compliance with Net-zero criteria is not the final destination but the driving force for businesses to innovate and integrate green solutions into operations to create long-term value. This recognition is not only encouraging but also contributes to promoting extensive cooperation between businesses.

Unilever Vietnam also honored and recognized 6 suppliers with commitments and activities with the group towards the Net-zero goal, including Dynaplast, LIX, Accredo Asia, Duy Tan Plastics, Starprint Vietnam and Ojitex Vietnam.
Through the "Road to Net Zero Emissions" training workshop, Unilever Vietnam continues to affirm its pioneering role in the field of sustainable development, from greening internal operations to expanding impacts across the entire supply chain. This is a strategic step to affirm Unilever's role in the journey towards Net-zero, with the goal of achieving Net-zero across the entire value chain by 2039 - earlier than Vietnam's Net-zero 2050 roadmap.
