About 35% of the spring crop area has enough water.
In recent years, Ba Giang field pumping station (Hoai Duc district) has played an important role in providing water for spring crop production for about 10,000 hectares of cultivation in the districts of Dan Phuong, Hoai Duc, Bac Tu Liem...
After the first water intake period lasted from 0:00 on January 12 to 24:00 on January 16, in recent days, taking advantage of the fact that the water level of the Red River is still good, workers at the station have been on duty 24/24 hours; operating a maximum of 26 generators, each with a capacity of 1,000m3/hour to take water.
Director of Dan Hoai Irrigation Enterprise Nguyen Hai Truong said that together with Ba Giang field pumping station, the unit is currently monitoring the water level of the Red River to flexibly operate 3 generators, each with a capacity of 8,000m3/hour at Dan Hoai pumping station, to make the most of the water discharged from hydroelectric reservoirs.
It is noted that at the pumping stations under the management and operation of 4 irrigation enterprises in Hanoi, drought prevention work has been maintained with high concentration. Since January 17, officers and workers at the stations have been working in shifts to continuously operate the irrigation system to get water for the spring crop production.
With the proactiveness and positivity of Hanoi irrigation enterprises, up to now, the whole city has nearly 30,000 hectares of agricultural cultivation supplied with water, reaching about 35% of the total production area for the 2025 Spring crop. Some localities have high areas of sufficient water such as: Ung Hoa, My Duc, Thanh Oai, Thuong Tin...
Prioritize water supply for disadvantaged areas
According to Deputy Head of the Hanoi Department of Irrigation and Disaster Prevention and Control, Dao Quang Khai, after the first water intake, localities will continue to operate irrigation works to take water using makeshift pumping stations, taking advantage of the tides... It is expected that before the second water intake, the area with enough water to prepare the land will increase significantly.
“Currently, the Department is continuing to coordinate with irrigation enterprises to closely monitor water resources developments to operate irrigation works along the Da River, Red River, and Duong River, focusing on taking water, pumping it into drainage canals, ponds, lakes, low-lying areas, and bringing water to the fields. In particular, priority is given to supplying water to areas at risk of water resource difficulties…” - Mr. Dao Quang Khai added.
Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Nguyen Hong Khanh said that to ensure water sources for planting and save water discharge, the Department of Irrigation has sent a document requesting the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces and cities in the Northern Midlands and Delta to continue operating irrigation works to bring water to the fields in the time before the second phase if water source conditions allow.
Localities should mobilize and guide people to prepare the land early to retain water in the fields, strengthen the embankments and land banks, and ensure against water loss for areas that have been supplied with enough water. For areas with enough water, it is necessary to urgently organize planting.
“For localities with low water areas (Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen), the Department of Irrigation recommends reviewing the cultivation areas that are likely to be short of water; installing field pumping stations and implementing plans to supplement water sources, to avoid water shortages for spring crop production…” - Mr. Nguyen Hong Khanh added.
It is expected that the second phase of water intake for the 2025 Spring crop will start from 0:00 on February 8 to 24:00 on February 14, 2025 (a total of 7 days). The average water level is expected to reach about 1.7 - 1.9m at the Hanoi Hydrological Station, so irrigation works will have favorable conditions to take water. Depending on the progress of water intake, in the second phase, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development can flexibly adjust to ensure water saving.
