Colonel Nguyen Van Ngan, Deputy Chief of Staff of Naval Region 4, Head of the working delegation and Lieutenant Colonel Ma Nguyen Thanh, Captain of ship 015-Tran Hung Dao attended the opening ceremony.

In his opening remarks, Brigadier General Edwin E Amadar, Commander of the Philippine Navy’s Marine Corps Readiness Force and the Exercise Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of AMNEX-2 for ASEAN countries to fulfill their common commitments and act together to respond to security challenges at sea. Brigadier General Edwin E Amadar expressed his gratitude and confidence that the active participation of ASEAN Navies in the exercise will contribute to promoting cooperation, bringing success to this event as well as success to the cooperative relationship between ASEAN countries in the future.

Colonel Vincent J Sibala, Deputy Commander in charge of the combat unit of the Marine Corps Fleet Readiness Force, Head of the organizing committee of the exercise, welcomed and applauded the ASEAN Navies participating in AMNEX-2; affirming that the upcoming days of the sea exercise will bring many opportunities for mutual learning between the navies of the countries in the region. In the context of facing common challenges in maritime security, ASEAN countries should effectively take advantage of the opportunity at AMNEX-2 to act together, cooperate, enhance response capabilities and improve professional capacity.

AMNEX-2 aims to promote three key pillars of interoperability, responsiveness and preparedness to address common concerns of countries sharing maritime borders.

Responding to questions from Vietnamese reporters participating in the working delegation on Ship 015-Tran Hung Dao, Brigadier General Edwin E Amadar affirmed that the Philippines highly appreciated the participation of Vietnam as well as ASEAN countries in the exercise; and wished to work with Vietnam and other countries in the region to enhance interoperability, readiness and coordinated actions to respond to challenges.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines, the captains expressed their hope that through AMNEX-2, the Navies of the countries will promote good friendship, mutual understanding, and enhance interoperability as well as closer relationships, for peace, cooperation and stability in the region.

Participating in AMNEX-2 are naval ships from the host countries, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Brunei. During the sea phase, which will take place on May 13 and 14, the ships will practice the following items: Communication inspection; aerial photography of formations; maritime search and rescue; electric decoding; light signals; night marching in formation; helicopter landing on ships, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance; maritime interdiction.
