Le Phuong Thao received the first runner-up award.
Recently, the first runner-up of the "Miss Fitness Vietnam" contest, Le Phuong Thao, became the "most famous" person on social networks when expressing her personal opinion on the "Sugar Baby" phenomenon. Specifically, she shared: "I support girls who are "Sugar Babies" as long as they do not become a third person to destroy the happiness of other families. You should just love people older than you. Most of the young people nowadays are not yet able to take care of themselves, have to worry about building a career, are busy making money, so how can they take care of you?
Snails can't even take care of themselves and are carrying poles for moss. If your taste is young people for fun, then fine. But if you want a stable life and a long-term relationship, find someone older to love. When you get married, don't argue about money, it's tiring."
Immediately, the video expressing the views of runner-up Phuong Thao sparked fierce criticism. Most of the public expressed disappointment with this viewpoint.
If Ý Nhi's statements were inappropriate, careless, or even more seriously, ignorant, then the statements of runner-up Lê Phương Thảo were considered "deviant". Clearly, what the first runner-up of "Miss Fitness" shared shows that she is promoting being a "Sugar Baby".
"Sugar baby" is a slang term used to refer to girls who use their beauty, affection, sex... in exchange for money, gifts or financial and material support from older men. "Sugar baby" is usually a young girl, maybe still a student, but has a great need for money, does not want to work hard but still wants to freely shop, beautify, and have fun. If this were the statement of a normal person, it would be difficult to accept. On this occasion, Le Phuong Thao is also a beauty crowned runner-up in a beauty contest.
This is not the only viewpoint that has caused runner-up Le Phuong Thao to be criticized. Some even suggested that the authorities investigate the beauty's personal background because of her excessive or unconventional statements commonly found in Asian cultures like Vietnam. In the face of criticism from the audience, Le Phuong Thao remained silent.
