Most of the students' STEM products have applications to solve life problems. |
STEM Festival is a healthy playground, stimulating the ability to learn in groups, stimulating students' creativity, and applying scientific research from life. Being held for the third time, STEM Festival in Da Lat City recorded one of the outstanding results: the number of videos and STEM creative products of students increased in both quantity and quality.
This year, the festival attracted the participation of 715 students from 40 primary and secondary schools. According to the evaluation, in the STEM video content, most of the videos participating in the contest realistically recorded the process of organizing STEM educational activities at the unit, clearly conveying the goals, content as well as the educational values that the activities bring. In the STEM product contest, the schools participated with a serious and positive spirit; many products were built from practical problems in teaching and learning, closely linked to the needs and specific learning environment of students. Some products showed elaborate investment, carefully prepared in both content and presentation.
Ms. Tang Thi Hang - Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training, Head of the Jury, assessed that many products clearly demonstrated the content of scientific knowledge, showing the ability to apply interdisciplinary knowledge of students... In the robotics competition, the students demonstrated quite good programming skills, knowing how to flexibly apply the knowledge they had learned to solve the requirements of the exam. The teams had serious preparations, invested thoroughly in designing and assembling robots. Many robots operated effectively, meeting the technical requirements and content of the exam...
At the primary level, the highly awarded STEM products are the Wind Power Field Model, Mini Vacuum Cleaner, Ecosystem Model... At the secondary level, there are the projects: Infinity Rotating Disk for a Green Earth; Robots transporting supplies in schools and hospitals; Literary models of scenic spots and human life in Da Lat... It can be seen that most of the STEM products this year apply technology to aim for a green, safe and sustainable future life.
“My family and I went sightseeing in Cau Dat. When I wondered about the giant blades, my parents explained that they were blades used to generate wind power - one of the green energy sources, created by wind power and very environmentally friendly. The books I learned also talked about wind power and from there, I came up with an idea and together with my teacher and friends, I built a model to apply wind power to life,” Tran Quoc Gia Minh, a student at Trung Vuong Primary School, shared about his idea. The project was awarded First Prize by the Jury. For the students, this is a great source of encouragement from applying knowledge from Science and Technology to solve life problems. One of the things that impressed the judges when awarding the prizes was that although they were young, the students were confident in presenting fluently about their grade products and clearly answering the questions.
According to Mr. Nguyen Vinh Hien - Head of the Department of Education and Training, this year, with the theme AI & STEM - Creative launch pad, connecting the future, students are free to be creative. This is an extremely suitable time for students to approach AI, in all fields and professions, not just in scientific and technical products. At the same time, it is an opportunity for students to participate and experience interesting scientific activities, apply knowledge into practice, practice boldness and confidence for individuals to develop students' qualities and abilities to meet the goals of the 2018 General Education Program.
In recent years, the Education Department of Da Lat City has paid great attention to STEM education activities in the area. STEM education activities organized in each class have helped students gain knowledge and skills as a prerequisite for students to participate in STEM activities at a higher level, which are experiential activities and scientific research activities. STEM is not only an educational method, but also the key to opening up a treasure trove of knowledge, inspiring creativity, and training the necessary skills of 21st century citizens, thereby helping them master technology and build the future.
