To meet the increasing demand for cancer treatment in Vietnam, the Ministry of Health is implementing a project to build a Proton Radiotherapy Center at three major hospitals: K Hospital, Hue Central General Hospital and Cho Ray Hospital.

According to statistics, each year Vietnam records about 180,000 cancer cases and 120,000 deaths. The goal is to reduce the number of cancer cases and deaths, in which proton radiotherapy plays an important role.

The application of this technology will contribute to improving the quality of healthcare in Vietnam, helping domestic patients have access to modern medical services without having to go abroad.

Proton radiotherapy uses high-energy proton beams to focus the treatment dose on the tumor site, limiting the impact on surrounding healthy tissue and reducing side effects. This not only reduces treatment time but also improves the patient's quality of life.

The Ministry of Health sees the need to implement proton therapy in Vietnam and is clarifying issues related to health insurance coverage and its impact on children. The project will study the coverage rate from the Health Insurance Fund, with priority given to children and the elderly.

The Ministry of Health also plans to deploy 1 to 3 proton radiotherapy machines in the first phase, with research and development of proton radiotherapy systems in stages, expected to be completed in the 2026-2030 period.

Along with the development of proton radiotherapy technology, medical facilities also focus on applying modern technologies in diagnosing and treating complex diseases.
