(PLVN) - Currently, developing high-tech agriculture is one of the effective directions applied by many localities to improve productivity, quality and product value. With great potential and strengths, Son La province has identified agriculture as an important "pillar" in the local economic structure. With synchronous solutions in recent times, Son La agriculture has made a strong breakthrough, becoming an "agricultural phenomenon" of the whole country.
Agricultural development is the "pillar"
Son La is considered a province with great potential and strength in agricultural development, with over 80% of the population engaged in agricultural production. Previously, people mainly grew corn, cassava, and raised livestock on a small scale, so productivity and efficiency were quite low.
In recent times, with the determination to create a breakthrough in agricultural production, Son La province has implemented many solutions to encourage people and businesses to change production methods and crop and livestock structures from fragmented and small-scale to concentrated, specialized farming, developing agriculture in the direction of clean agriculture, organic agriculture, applying high technology associated with consumption and processing.
Thereby, contributing to increasing product value, meeting domestic and export market requirements, creating jobs, increasing income for people, and ensuring sustainable development of the ecological environment.
Mr. Ha Nhu Hue - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Son La province said: Identifying agriculture as the "pillar" of the province's economy, through policies and guidelines on agricultural development, Son La province has concretized in Resolution No. 08-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee on concentrated, sustainable development of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, applying high technology until 2025, with a vision to 2030, Son La agriculture has made a strong shift.
To implement this policy, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue plans for implementation, including the application of high technology. It can be said that this is a very correct orientation, accurate and consistent with the general development trend of the region as well as the world, creating chains of industries, bringing high agricultural values to farmers. Originating from this policy, people and businesses in the province have paid attention and agreed to support.

Since the implementation of high-tech agricultural development, it has contributed to changing people's thinking and awareness, typically restructuring agriculture and strongly transforming the structure of crops and livestock.
Thereby, applying scientific and technical applications in cultivation, animal husbandry, aquaculture, as well as forest protection and development... Specifically, implementing mechanization of production by introducing machinery into production and harvesting products; applying microbiological technology, enzyme and protein technology, microbiological preparations in the prevention and control of plant pests and diseases, net houses, and greenhouses in cultivation.
For livestock breeding, breed improvement and technology transfer, expanding business models, cooperatives linked with households, applying technology to treat livestock waste using biogas technology, biological products... to minimize the risk of environmental pollution. Applying tissue and cutting technology in selecting, creating, and propagating forest tree varieties and applying GIS technology in forest protection in the forestry sector.
In the field of aquaculture, the application of biotechnology in selecting parent fish stocks, technology for producing fish fry by spawning and hatching eggs in fin jars, the application of crossbreeding or the use of chemicals to create monosex breeds in fish fry production to create high-yield, high-quality fry...
The core of the agricultural “phenomenon”
With the policy and synchronous solutions in agricultural development applying high technology to production, processing and consumption, contributing to improving productivity and product value, meeting domestic market demand and exporting to many demanding international markets.
Son La is considered an agricultural “phenomenon” of the whole country. That is proven, in 2024, the total product of agriculture, forestry and fishery reached 8,687 billion VND. The whole province has over 84,000 hectares of fruit trees, with an output of nearly 456,600 tons.

Notably, the whole province recognized 7 high-tech agricultural areas, including: Vinatea Moc Chau high-tech tea area with a scale of over 329 hectares; Moc Chau dairy farming; coffee production and custard-apple growing using high technology in Mai Son district; high-tech mango production in Mai Son district with nearly 400 hectares; high-tech longan growing in Long Phieng commune, Yen Chau district, with more than 300 hectares...
Up to now, Son La province is maintaining 216 growing area codes, including 205 export growing area codes, 11 growing area codes for the crop sector, with a total area of 3,158 hectares; there are 154 OCOP products; 29 products are granted protection certificates by the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology).
Mr. Ha Nhu Hue shared: Along with focusing on developing high-tech agriculture, it is necessary to associate it with processing and consumption. Son La province has issued policies to support and introduce product brands to farmers and cooperatives, focusing on attracting large enterprises and cooperatives to invest in deep processing.
Along with that, implementing policies to support the introduction of product brands to farmers. Many products have been branded and known to consumers nationwide such as: longan, mango, Son La banana... In addition, many agricultural products of Son La are recognized by organizations for their brands and agricultural product protection.
The most joyful thing is that Son La has attracted a number of factories to come and process deeply for the people to increase the value of the products. At the same time, actively implementing policies to support the people to develop raw material areas for agricultural processing factories in the area.
Integrating national target programs to implement value chains, creating concentrated production areas, bringing high economic value. This is one of the sustainable factors, demonstrating the connection of 6 parties "farmers - State - investors - banks - scientists - distributors", as well as ensuring green and sustainable agricultural development.
In the coming time, determining that agriculture is still the strength, the "pillar" of the province's economy, in addition to the orientation of developing agriculture, organic, circular, high-tech agriculture is a very necessary factor for Son La to make a breakthrough. Thereby, continuing to transfer technical advances, science and technology into agricultural, forestry and fishery production, especially agricultural production processes. Because, developing high-tech agriculture brings good productivity and quality, thereby increasing product value. This is a major orientation, a correct policy, one of the factors that makes Son La agriculture develop into an agricultural "phenomenon" of the whole country.
