Representing Seventeen at the recent appointment ceremony at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, member Joshua expressed his honor and pride “to represent today's youth, a priority group for UNESCO.”

The South Korean K-pop group "is grateful to be recognized for their passion and tireless efforts to contribute to youth around the world. Looking back, it has been a long journey with each step taken until we stand before you as Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth."

“Seventeen and UNESCO share a commitment to empowering young people to drive change and address the challenges of our century,” said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.

The group's 13 members “continue to inspire and support young people around the world with their music and positive energy,” she stressed.

Seventeen's management company, Pledis Entertainment, affirmed that being honored by UNESCO is a recognition by the international community of the group's global influence.

In fact, Seventeen and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO have been running the #Going Together campaign since August 2022 to promote the importance of education and encourage more people to participate in various educational activities. As part of this campaign, the group contributed to the establishment of two community learning centers in Timor Leste.

Last November, Seventeen spoke at the special session of the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris, revealing plans to boost educational infrastructure in the world's least developed countries.

Seventeen plans to donate $1 million to a global funding project with UNESCO, aiming to promote and encourage innovative ideas from young minds around the world.

In a statement on June 11, Pledis Entertainment said, “Since their debut in 2015, Seventeen has continued to share stories of their musical growth, communicating with young people around the world.”

Through music, the group “conveys positive messages to listeners, encouraging them to overcome difficulties instead of being discouraged.”

Seventeen debuted with the album 17 Carat in 2015 and followed it up with hits like Very Nice (2016) and Don't Wanna Cry (2017). Their latest album 17 IS RIGHT HERE , released in April, sold over 2.9 million copies in its first week and debuted at number five on the Billboard 200.
