After a series of accidents on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet highway, vehicles were forced to travel on the national highway. Until more than 6am, traffic from Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Thuan was still congested.
On the morning of January 24 (December 25), the flow of people continued to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet, causing the highways from Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Thuan to become overloaded; along with the series of traffic accidents on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet highway, the congestion became even more serious.
According to initial information, at more than 1:00 a.m. the same day, on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet highway (Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan), a series of collisions occurred between 5 vehicles, including 2 sleeper buses and 3 cars.
At the scene, the vehicles were badly damaged, the accident caused many people to panic.
Upon receiving the news, the Traffic Police of Team 6 (Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security) quickly arrived to handle the accident. At the same time, remote control was used to prevent vehicles from entering the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway.
Many people set off at dawn hoping to avoid traffic jams, but still could not escape the above situation.
Mr. Thanh Duy (living in Ho Chi Minh City) said that his family was afraid of traffic jams so they left at 3am to go home to celebrate Tet with their family, but when they reached the entrance to Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway, they were guided by the authorities to go to Dau Giay direction and use National Highway 1.
"I heard you guys say there was an accident up ahead, so my family left early in the morning to get on the highway to avoid traffic jams, but ended up having to take the national highway," said Mr. Duy.
According to the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC E), by 6am, vehicles had been allowed to enter the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway. However, traffic on the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Thuan was still heavy. Drivers should choose an alternative route for more convenient travel.
