“Our armed forces dealt a heavy blow on the morning of June 18 – and a very big one – in the village of Rykove, Henichesk district, in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region. There was a very important ammunition depot destroyed,” Mr Bratchuk said.
Ukrainian media posted video showing a huge plume of smoke rising from the horizon along with the sound of explosions.
Rykove is about 20 kilometers from Henichesk, a port city along the Sea of Azov in southern Ukraine that has been occupied by Russian forces since the early days of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Meanwhile, the telegram page of the Wagner Private Military Group (specializing in providing mercenaries) said on June 18 that in less than two weeks of the counteroffensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VSU) had put into battle almost as many soldiers as had fought in the entire confrontation in Bakhmut with Wagner.
According to Wagner's statistics, Ukraine has sent 13 battalions, 27 brigades and 3 companies to participate in the counterattack in the direction of Zaporizhzhia. The telegram page also said that the Russian army has withdrawn from the village of Pyatikhatki to advance towards the village of Kamenskoye, the fighting is still continuing.
In the direction of the village of Rabotino, the VSU made a new attempt to attack, but was repelled with the support of tanks. In the Malaya Tokmachka area, the Russian army successfully carried out counter-battery fire, destroying the M777 howitzer.
