Early morning on February 14, some locals posted clips of the fire at sea.

On social networks, they said they saw two Mi-8 helicopters circling over the sea, then a Ka-27 rescue helicopter appeared. Later, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's intelligence headquarters confirmed the successful operation of its "group 13".

Ukrainian intelligence said the Russian landing ship was shot in the port side and sank.

Caesar Kunikov is one of Russia's largest landing ships, with a crew of up to 87 people. The ship was built in 1986 and can transport a lot of equipment and more than 300 military personnel.

* Russian President's spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on the information about the attack on the warship in the Black Sea when speaking to journalists, because it was related to the progress of the special military operation.

Mr. Peskov said that commenting on the operation was within the competence of the Russian Defense Ministry and asked journalists to read the statements of the ministry's press service when asked to comment on information that a Russian warship had been attacked in the Black Sea.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov also denied rumors that President Vladimir Putin, through intermediaries, proposed that the US freeze the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, Reuters reported that the US had rejected Mr Putin's proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine to freeze the conflict. The proposal, made through Russian and US intermediaries, suggested the Kremlin freeze fighting at the current lines but not give up any of Ukraine's occupied territories.

A US source denied any formal contacts and said Washington would not participate in the talks without Ukraine. Meanwhile, a Russian source said that in 2023, Mr. Putin, through his own intermediary channel, including through Russia’s partners in the Middle East, “spoke” to Washington that he was ready to consider the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine.

* Meanwhile, on February 14, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg praised Ukraine's recent achievements in the Black Sea, after Kiev announced that it had destroyed another Russian warship in this important battlefield.

Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Stoltenberg emphasized: "Ukraine was able to inflict heavy losses on Russia's Black Sea Fleet... This is a great achievement, a great victory for the Ukrainian people."
