Speaking at a joint press conference after meeting the German leader, Mr. Zelensky thanked Berlin for its support for Kiev. Mr. Zelensky also said that Ukraine was prepared to discuss initiatives from other countries, but those proposals must be based on Ukraine's position and its peace plan. Kiev believes that the conflict situation will change significantly this year.
Meanwhile, Berlin also pledged to steadfastly support Kiev. Mr. Scholz reaffirmed that Berlin is committed to supporting Kiev if it still finds this necessary.

According to the plan, on May 14, the Ukrainian President will travel from Berlin to the city of Aachen to attend the award ceremony for efforts to promote European solidarity. The event, attended by German Chancellor Scholz, President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, is considered an opportunity for Mr. Zelensky to have direct discussions with Western leaders ahead of the upcoming European Union (EU) Summit in Reykjavik on May 16 and then the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Japan next weekend.
Previously, the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting adopted a statement on May 13 pledging to provide $44 billion in budget and economic support to Ukraine in 2023 and early 2024.
On the same day, the German Defense Ministry confirmed that it will provide a large military equipment package worth 2.7 billion euros (more than 2.9 billion USD) to Ukraine in the coming weeks and months. The new support package includes many types, including modern defense systems, tanks, armored vehicles and many other vehicles and equipment.
