According to the Russian Ministry of Defense , on November 6 alone, Ukraine lost more than 250 soldiers.
" In the past day alone, the Ukrainian armed forces lost more than 250 soldiers, 8 infantry fighting vehicles were destroyed, including 2 US-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and 6 armored fighting vehicles, as well as 2 artillery pieces, 2 mortars and 8 cars," the Russian Defense Ministry informed on November 6.
Ukrainian forces launched a cross-border offensive into the Kursk region on August 6, the largest assault on Russian territory since the start of the special military operation. The offensive was quickly stopped by Russian troops, but fighting in the region continues and Ukrainian troops still hold several settlements in the border area.

Explaining the offensive on Russian territory, the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky initially said that controlling Russian territory was " necessary to put pressure on Russia" and help Kiev "gain a better position in the final peace negotiations with Moscow".
The message later changed when President Zelensky said the purpose of the incursion was to create a buffer zone inside Russian territory and prevent Moscow from ordering an attack on Ukraine's Sumy province, which borders Kursk.
According to AFP analysis of data from the US Institute for the Study of War, Russia controlled an additional 478 square kilometers in October alone - a record since March 2022. Two-thirds of the area controlled by Russia - 324 square kilometers, is located in the Donetsk region.
According to analysts, Russia has recently reduced the frequency of artillery and missile attacks on Ukraine. This move by Russia may be to gather resources to prepare for a large-scale attack or the country is facing challenges in producing weapons.
Ukraine is also planning to recruit 160,000 more troops into its army. The move comes as Russia has made rapid advances in the Donetsk region in recent weeks and taken “full control” of the Selydove region, which has an estimated population of 21,000.
