Provincial People's Committee works with the delegation of Vietnam Urban Development Planning Association and Vietnam Geological Association

On the afternoon of October 15, the Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the delegation of the Vietnam Urban Development Planning Association and the Vietnam Geological Society on natural disaster prevention.

Attending the meeting, on behalf of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, there were Architect Tran Ngoc Chinh, Chairman of the Association, former Deputy Minister of Construction; Professor - Doctor Do Hau, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Association.

Representatives of the Vietnam Geological Society include Mr. Nguyen Van Tuc, Vice President of the Vietnam Hydrogeological Society; Mr. Ta Duc Thinh, President of the Vietnam Society of Engineering Geology and Environment.

Receiving and working with the delegation, Lao Cai province had comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of a number of departments, branches and localities.

Leaders of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association analyzed and evaluated the area for infrastructure reconstruction after natural disasters in Lao Cai province.

At the meeting, leaders of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association and the Vietnam Geological Society shared the difficulties and losses with Lao Cai province caused by natural disasters in recent times.

Analyzing some of the causes of serious landslides in the province, according to experts, there are 3 main causes of landslides: soil, water and gravity. Storm No. 3 caused extremely heavy rainfall over a large area, deeply penetrating, causing the soil to be strongly weathered and become soft. At the same time, the resonance of the terrain factors of the province is mostly mountains with little solid soil and steep slopes, causing a high risk of landslides....

Representatives of the Vietnam Geological Society analyzed the causes of landslides and flash floods occurring in some areas in Lao Cai province.

Leaders of the Department of Construction consulted experts on solutions for building infrastructure in mountainous areas.

Proposing solutions to overcome the consequences of natural disasters in Lao Cai, the Vietnam Urban Development Planning Association and the Vietnam Geological Society pledged to always accompany and support the province in geological assessment, planning construction of dangerous areas, at risk of landslides and flash floods in the area; will ask for the opinion of the Ministry of Construction to organize a national scientific conference to assess the current situation of natural disasters caused by climate change, analyze the consequences to propose response solutions and develop appropriate infrastructure.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, thanked the sense of responsibility and affection of the Vietnam Urban Development Planning Association and the General Association of Geology for Lao Cai province in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in the past time. The comments of experts and scientists after conducting field surveys have objectively assessed the current situation, close to the actual situation, helping the locality to have new awareness in natural disaster prevention work, thereby providing effective management solutions.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong requested departments and branches to continue to coordinate well with the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association and the Vietnam Geological Society in researching and organizing training on disaster response for leaders and officials from the province to the grassroots level; building an information handbook on natural disaster prevention in the new situation; practical solutions in warning of dangerous natural disasters; focusing on digital transformation in natural disaster prevention work in the province...
