British media recently posted a video that is said to show the destruction of a Challenger 2 tank supplied to Ukraine by London.
Specifically, the British news site The Sun posted a viral video on social media that they described as the scene of a Challenger 2 tank from London that was providing aid to Ukraine being blown up in an attack in Russia's Kursk region.
According to The Sun , based on the video, experts can identify the Challenger 2 through the characteristic gun system of this main battle tank.
A source at the scene said the multi-million pound British tank appeared to have been destroyed by a cheap Russian UAV.
Britain and Russia have not commented on this information, but if this is true, Ukraine has lost the second Challenger 2 that London donated.
So far, Britain has supplied Kiev with 14 Challenger 2 tanks, all of which have been put into service with the Ukrainian 82nd Air Assault Brigade, which is taking part in the assault on Kursk.
According to British media, in nearly 30 years, only one Challenger 2 tank has been hit in 2003 in Iraq, but that tank was destroyed in friendly fire, not by enemy fire. Russia is the first country to destroy a British-made tank in a confrontation.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry posted a video of a soldier from the 82nd Brigade praising the Challenger 2 for its long-range firepower and armor protection that is stronger than Soviet-era tanks.
The Challenger 2, which entered service with the British Army in 1998, is a main battle tank designed and manufactured by BAE Systems, the successor to the Challenger 1. With a powerful engine and advanced firepower, the Challenger 2 offers strong defense and superior combat effectiveness. The Challenger 2 has a turret protected by second-generation Chobham armor, which increases its resistance to anti-tank weapons.
