The Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) has chosen Thailand as the host of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, which will take place in August this year. The draw ceremony and the specific schedule of the tournament will be announced by the AFF later. As the defending champion, U23 Vietnam is certain to be selected as the number 1 seed of the tournament.

For U23 Thailand, this is a tournament in which they are determined to achieve results, after the national team and youth teams have not performed successfully in recent times.

Competing in Thailand is a challenge for U23 Vietnam. However, in two consecutive tournaments, U23 Vietnam won, specifically in 2022 in Cambodia and in 2023 also in Thailand.

The issue that many people are interested in is who will lead U23 Vietnam in the regional tournament. Last March, due to the overlap with the national team, coach Kim Sang Sik handed over the head coach position to assistant Dinh Hong Vinh to lead U22 Vietnam in a friendly tournament in China.

At the time of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, the Vietnamese team will not be involved in any tournaments, so it is very likely that coach Kim Sang Sik will personally lead the Vietnamese U23 team to defend the championship in Thailand.
