U16 Vietnam prepares to compete with China, Australia and Saudi Arabia

Receiving an invitation from the Chinese Football Association (CFA) and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), which also prepared a plan for the 2026 AFC U17 qualifiers, the Vietnam U16 team will participate in the International U16 Tournament taking place in Hohhot City, China from May 26 to June 1.

According to information from CFA, the tournament will feature the host U16 China and the guest teams U16 Vietnam, U16 Australia and U16 Saudi Arabia.

To prepare for the tournament, U16 Vietnam is expected to gather in mid-May in Hanoi . The team will have two weeks of training before going to China.

Leading the team will most likely still be coach Cristiano Roland and the coaching staff that just led U17 Vietnam at the 2025 AFC U17 Championship.

In terms of force, the team will gather players born in 2009 and later. Among them are faces who competed in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship such as Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc (Hanoi Youth), Nguyen Van Duong (PVF Academy).

VFF said that it always takes the initiative and calculates early in the plan to build up the force for the national teams. The participation of the Vietnam U16 team in the tournament in China with the top teams in the continent will be an opportunity for the players to accumulate more experience and international competition skills, and from there have good preparation towards the 2026 AFC U17 qualifiers.
