The area of ripe rice is increasing rapidly, and farmers in Ha Tinh are speeding up the summer-autumn harvest. Throughout the fields, the rumbling sound of harvesters blends with the laughter of people in the joy of a good harvest and good prices.
As of the morning of September 6, 2023, Cam Xuyen district has completed harvesting 6,000/9,100 hectares of summer-autumn rice.
As the locality with the largest summer-autumn crop area in the province with 9,100 hectares, Cam Xuyen district is striving to complete harvesting 100% of the area before September 10, 2023. Mr. Le Ngoc Ha - Vice Chairman of Cam Xuyen District People's Committee said: "This year, many localities in Ha Tinh recorded drought affecting crops, however, in Cam Xuyen district, thanks to proactive regulation of water resources, most of the rice area has ensured irrigation, without greatly affecting the growth and development of crops. Up to now, it can be affirmed that Cam Xuyen's summer-autumn crop has achieved success when the rice yield is estimated by the professional sector to be the highest in the province (54.38 quintals/ha)".
As of the morning of September 6, Cam Xuyen has completed harvesting 6,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice. To be "safe", the district People's Committee has assigned localities to review the number of harvesters in the area to coordinate reasonably between localities to speed up the harvest progress as quickly as possible. At the same time, the district also assigned the police force to closely monitor the area, limit the situation of protecting harvesters, increasing service prices... to ensure the rights of farmers.

In recent years, Ha Tinh has promoted land accumulation, breaking up the banks of the fields, and focusing on production on large-scale fields with uniform varieties, science and technology, etc. to increase crop productivity. This process also creates motivation for cooperatives and cooperatives to invest heavily in production and develop the agricultural economy.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lieu - Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Bac Son Agricultural and General Service Cooperative (Thach Ha) excitedly said: "In the summer-autumn crop of 2020, the Cooperative was the first unit in the province to lease 27.9 hectares of land for production according to large-scale fields. Up to now, the accumulated area has reached 53 hectares, linked to production with 43 households in the area with an expected yield of about 3 hectares/sao. The Cooperative is taking full advantage of favorable weather days, following the motto "greener at home than ripe in the fields", harvesting rice as it ripens. At the same time, proactively connecting with organizations and individuals to consume rice for the people. With a good harvest, rice sold at the field is also priced well, so farmers are more excited and assured to stick to the fields."
Farmers in Luu Vinh Son commune are trying to harvest the ripe summer-autumn rice crop.
This summer-autumn crop, Thach Ha district planted 7,495 hectares. With the thorough implementation of production processes and favorable weather, this summer-autumn crop is considered a good year. The district continues to use varieties with a growing period of less than 110 days, varieties that have been widely adapted and stable in production in recent years such as: Khang Dan 18, BT 09, HT 1, Nep 98... Up to this point, farmers have harvested 2,807 hectares, reaching nearly 38% of the total area.
Along with Cam Xuyen and Thach Ha, Duc Tho farmers are also racing against time, striving to bring rice home as soon as possible. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Bui La Nhan Commune (Duc Tho) shared: "This summer-autumn crop, the whole commune produces 527 hectares of rice with short-term varieties such as Nep 98, BT09... Being an area outside the dike, often heavily affected by natural disasters and floods, farmers are very proactive in production and harvesting. As soon as the rice is ripe, it is harvested immediately. In addition to machine harvesting, people also mobilize manual labor to speed up the progress. Up to now, Bui La Nhan Commune has completed harvesting 95% of the area and strives to finish the summer-autumn crop in 3-5 days. Farmers are excited when the yield is quite high (44 quintals/ha) and the rice price at this time is also quite good".
The harvest atmosphere in Bui La Nhan commune (Duc Tho) is also bustling and urgent.
According to Mr. Phan Van Huan - Head of the Cultivation Department (Ha Tinh Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection), in the 2023 summer-autumn crop, the whole province planted 44,568/44,891 hectares of rice, reaching 99.3% of the plan. Regarding the variety structure, localities mainly planted varieties with a growing period of less than 110 days. Of which, the group of widely adaptable and stable varieties (Huong Thom 1, Thien Uu 8, Xuan Mai, Nep 98...) accounted for 79.5% of the area; the group of promising varieties (Ha Phat 3, ND502, HD11...) accounted for 10.9% of the area. The average yield of the whole province is estimated at 50.28 quintals/ha (equivalent to the 2022 summer-autumn crop), the output is estimated at 224,093 tons.
As of the morning of September 6, the whole province has harvested 20,200/44,568 hectares of summer-autumn rice (reaching 45.3% of the area) . According to surveys in the localities, the selling price of fresh rice at the field fluctuates from 5,900 - 6,200 VND/kg depending on the variety. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to send staff to closely monitor the fields, guide and direct the quick harvest of crops, minimizing damage caused by floods.

Faced with unpredictable weather forecasts, on August 31, the Provincial People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 10/CD-UBND on focusing on quickly harvesting summer-autumn rice in 2023. During the field inspection on September 5, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Linh requested units and localities to establish working groups to direct the grassroots to mobilize maximum human resources (youth union, militia, women's army, etc.), machinery to help people harvest; monitor and promptly prevent unfair competition for harvesters. At the same time, review and upgrade drying facilities in the area to prepare conditions to dry rice for people in the event of floods to minimize post-harvest losses; proactively connect with organizations and individuals consuming rice and other agricultural products for people...
