As of the morning of September 6, 2023, Cam Xuyen district had completed harvesting 6,000 out of 9,100 hectares of summer-autumn rice.

As the locality with the largest area of summer-autumn rice cultivation in the province with 9,100 hectares in 2023, Cam Xuyen district is striving to complete 100% of the harvest before September 10, 2023. Mr. Le Ngoc Ha - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Xuyen district said: “This year, many localities in Ha Tinh province have experienced drought affecting crops; however, in Cam Xuyen district, thanks to proactive water management, most rice fields have ensured irrigation, not significantly affecting the growth and development of the crops. To date, it can be confirmed that Cam Xuyen's summer-autumn crop has been a success, with rice yield estimated by the professional sector to be the highest in the province (54.38 quintals/hectare).”

As of the morning of September 6th, Cam Xuyen district had completed harvesting 6,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice. To ensure a successful harvest, the District People's Committee instructed local authorities to review the number of combine harvesters in their areas to coordinate effectively and accelerate the harvesting process. Simultaneously, the district assigned police forces to closely monitor the area, preventing protection rackets involving combine harvesters and price gouging, thereby protecting the rights of farmers.

On the afternoon of September 5, 2023, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Hong Linh, and his delegation inspected the progress of rice harvesting in Thach Tri commune (Thach Ha district).

In recent years, Ha Tinh province has been promoting land consolidation, removing field boundaries, and concentrating production on large-scale model fields with uniform varieties and scientific and technical methods... in order to improve crop yields. This process has also created momentum for cooperatives and associations to invest heavily in production and develop the agricultural economy .

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lieu – Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Bac Son Agricultural and General Services Cooperative (Thach Ha) – happily stated: “In the 2020 summer-autumn crop season, the cooperative was the first unit in the entire province to lease 27.9 hectares of land for large-scale model farming. To date, the accumulated area has reached 53 hectares, linking production with 43 households in the area with an expected yield of about 3 hectares per sao (approximately 300 square meters). The cooperative is taking full advantage of favorable weather conditions, following the motto "better to harvest early than late," organizing harvesting as soon as the rice ripens. At the same time, we are proactively connecting with organizations and individuals to consume the rice for the farmers. With a good harvest and good prices for rice sold directly from the fields, farmers are even more enthusiastic and confident in continuing to work in the fields.”

This year, Thach Ha district planted 7,495 hectares of rice during the summer-autumn crop season. Thanks to the thorough implementation of production processes and favorable weather conditions, this year's summer-autumn crop is considered a bumper harvest. The district continues to use rice varieties with a growth period of less than 110 days, varieties that have adapted widely and remained stable in production in recent years, such as Khang Dan 18, BT 09, HT 1, and Nep 98… To date, farmers have harvested 2,807 hectares, reaching nearly 38% of the total area.

Along with Cam Xuyen and Thach Ha, farmers in Duc Tho are currently racing against time, striving to bring their rice home as soon as possible. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bui La Nhan commune (Duc Tho), shared: “This summer-autumn crop, the entire commune cultivated 527 hectares of rice with short-day varieties such as Nep 98 and BT09… As an area outside the dike, frequently heavily affected by natural disasters and floods, farmers are very proactive in both production and harvesting. Rice is harvested as soon as it ripens; in addition to machine harvesting, people also mobilize manpower for hand harvesting to speed up the process. To date, Bui La Nhan commune has completed harvesting 95% of its area and aims to finish the summer-autumn crop in 3-5 days. Farmers are delighted with the relatively high yield (44 quintals/hectare) and the current rice price is also quite good.”

During a field inspection on September 5th, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Hong Linh, requested that units and localities establish working groups to direct grassroots efforts to mobilize maximum manpower (youth union, militia, women's groups, etc.) and machinery to assist the people in harvesting; and to monitor and promptly prevent unfair competition for harvesting machines. In addition, he instructed them to review and upgrade drying facilities in the area to ensure they are ready to dry rice for farmers in case of rain and floods, thereby minimizing post-harvest losses; and to proactively connect with organizations and individuals to consume rice and other agricultural products for the people.
