Class 10 specializing in IT has nearly 900 students taking the exam, while the quota is 90, so the competition ratio is nearly 1/10, the highest at the High School for Natural Sciences.
On May 25, the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences announced that it received 2,975 applications for the 10th grade entrance exam, an increase of about 100 compared to last year.
Meanwhile, the total quota for the 5 specialized blocks of Math, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology is 540, each block recruits 90 students.
The IT block has the most applications - 894, and also has the highest competition ratio of 1/9.93, meaning that for every 10 students taking the exam, only one will be admitted.
With the highest competition ratio last year at 1/9.1, the Math major this year has 630 candidates registered, the competition ratio has decreased to 1/7. The Physics and Chemistry major has a competition ratio ranging from 1/5.86-1/6.72, Biology 1/3.54.
The entrance exam for grade 10 at the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences will take place on June 4-5. Candidates can register for up to 2/5 specialized classes as long as they do not overlap with the exam time.
Each candidate takes three exams including Math, Literature (round 1) and specialized subject (round 2). For candidates taking the IT specialized exam, they will take the Math exam. The first round exams last 120 minutes, Math is in essay format and Literature is a combination of essay and multiple choice. The specialized subject in round 2 has 150 minutes to complete.
The admission score is the sum of the first round Math score and the specialized subject multiplied by a factor of two, maximum 30 points. The Literature score is only a condition and is not counted in the admission score. Candidates are eligible for admission when they take all three exams, with no subject below 4. The school does not add priority points.

The School of Natural Sciences said the expected benchmark scores will be announced before June 15.
If desired, candidates can register for the school's high-quality class. They still have to take two subjects in round 1, achieving a minimum of 4 points in each subject, then take a 60-minute multiple-choice test to assess their intelligence quotient (IQ) and a direct interview. The admission score is the total score of Literature, IQ and interview (coefficient 1) plus the score of Math in round 1 (coefficient 2), up to a maximum of 50 points.
High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is the leading school in the country in terms of achievements in international excellent student competitions for many years.
Last year, nearly 2,900 candidates took the entrance exam to compete for 540 spots. The admission score for the Math class is 20. The IT class requires 18.5 points. The remaining three classes, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, require 16.5; 15.5 and 15.5, respectively.
