Competition ratio of 10th graders of 114 public schools in Hanoi

Among 114 public schools, Khuong Ha Primary, Secondary and High School - a school established only two years ago, has the highest competition rate for grade 10 admission in Hanoi - 1/3.55.

On the morning of May 17, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the number of candidates registering for the 10th grade public exam for the 2023-2024 school year. Accordingly, 104,917 candidates registered for their first choice, with more than 101,000 and 64,000 candidates registering for their second and third choices, respectively.

Among 114 public high schools, Khuong Ha Primary, Secondary and High School in Thanh Xuan District has the highest competition ratio - 1/3.55, meaning that for every four candidates, only one is admitted. This is the first multi-level public school in Hanoi, enrolling students from 2021. This year, the school accepts 280 10th graders but has 995 applications for first choice.

Compared to the total target, the admission rate for grade 10 public high schools in Hanoi is 66.5%.

This year, Hanoi has 129,210 students graduating from secondary schools. Of these, 72,000 students enter public schools (equivalent to 55.7%), the rest study at autonomous public schools or private schools (23.2%), and vocational education and continuing education centers.

Hanoi's 10th grade entrance exam began on the morning of June 10 with the Literature subject, and in the afternoon of the same day, students took the Foreign Language exam. On the morning of June 11, candidates took the Math exam. The Math and Literature exams were in essay format with a duration of 120 minutes each. For the Foreign Language subject, candidates took a multiple choice test in 60 minutes.

Admission score for grade 10 in Hanoi = (Math score + Literature score) x 2 + Foreign language score + Priority score.

Candidates who register for specialized classes will take an additional exam on June 12. Admission score for specialized 10th grade = Total score of non-specialized exams + Specialized exam score x 2.

Hanoi's public 10th grade benchmark scores were announced on July 8-9, and candidates confirmed their enrollment online or in person. From July 18, schools that do not meet their enrollment quotas will begin additional enrollment.
