The High School for Gifted Students affiliated with the University of Education is recruiting 315 students and received 6,113 applications, a significant increase compared to previous years.
On May 15th, Hanoi University of Education's High School for Gifted Students announced that the number of candidates registering for 7 specialized subjects was 6,113, the highest since 2019. In previous years, the number of candidates registering for the school ranged from 4,500 to 5,400, while the number of quotas was almost the same (305).
Dr. Vu Van Tien, Principal of the High School for Gifted Students affiliated with Hanoi University of Education, believes the reason could be a slight increase in the number of 9th-grade students in Hanoi and some northern provinces. In addition, the school's quality has been affirmed year after year, earning the trust of parents and students.
Regarding the competition ratios for classes at the Teacher Training High School, the Literature class saw the most significant increase, from 1/18.3 to 1/28.5, as the school received 998 applications for 35 students. This means that only one student out of every 28 applicants was accepted. Next is the Computer Science class with a competition ratio of 1/19.5, a sharp increase from last year's 1/10 ratio due to nearly doubling the number of applications.
The specialized English class still has the most applicants - 2,049, an increase of 120 compared to last year. However, because the quota for this class also increased by 10, the competition ratio this year is 1/29.3, a slight decrease from 1/32.1 last year.
The competition ratios for Chemistry and Biology classes remained stable at 1/19.8 and 1/10.2 respectively; while the ratio for Mathematics decreased slightly, from 1/13 to 1/11.9.
The entrance exam for the 10th grade at the High School for Gifted Students affiliated with the University of Education took place on June 10th. In the morning, candidates took the Mathematics and Literature exams. These are two compulsory subjects, each with a 90-minute time limit. In the afternoon, candidates took the specialized subject exam, with a 120-minute time limit. Candidates took the exam in the subject corresponding to the specialized class they applied for, except for the Computer Science class, which required a Mathematics exam.
The admission score is the sum of the scores in the three subjects, with the specialized subject weighted twice. The High School for Gifted Students affiliated with the University of Education does not add any priority points for any candidate.
Last year, the highest cutoff score was for the specialized Math class - 27.5. The four classes in Biology, Chemistry, Literature, and English had similar cutoff scores, ranging from 25 to 25.25 points. The specialized Computer Science and Physics classes had cutoff scores of 23.25 and 23.75 respectively.
