According to a spokesman for Munich airport, airport authorities had to cancel about 760 flights on December 2 (local time) due to heavy snowfall.
Meanwhile, Munich's public transport company announced that bus, tram and some train services had also been suspended.
Specifically, the national railway company Deutsche Bahn said that the central station of Munich city had to be temporarily closed, and long-distance transport services were also suspended.
Rail services will be “severely affected” until December 4. Large numbers of passengers were stranded at Munich’s main station.
Also on the same day, Munich police advised people not to use their cars unless necessary. Authorities also advised people in some areas of Bavaria to stay at home.
Due to travel difficulties and concerns about health risks, the football match between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin scheduled to take place on the evening of December 2 was also postponed.
According to local media, Munich recorded 45 cm of snowfall on December 2, a record for December since 1933. The entire state of Bavaria recorded the heaviest snowfall in the past 17 years.
