Thanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union, Nghi Son Port Border Guard Command, Nghi Son Town Youth Union, Hai Ha Commune People's Committee (Nghi Son Town, Thanh Hoa) have just coordinated with Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station, Quynh Lap Commune People's Committee (Hoang Mai Town, Nghe An) to organize a conference to propagate the prevention and combat of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing for 215 fishermen, vehicle owners, and captains of fishing vessels in the maritime border area between Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.
At the conference, delegates were informed by propagandists of the Nghi Son Port Border Guard Command and Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station about the basic information on the situation of activities in the sea area adjacent to Thanh Hoa and Nghe An in the past time; propaganda, dissemination and implementation of the regulations of the European Commission (EC) on seafood exploitation, focusing on 12 IUU fishing violations; the harm and impact of the EC's IUU sanctions on Vietnam's seafood exports; Directive 45/CT-TTg dated December 13, 2017 of the Prime Minister on a number of urgent tasks and solutions to overcome the EC's warning on combating IUU fishing; procedures and processes for registering fishing vessels' entry and exit from ports on the fishing vessel management system; Law on Drug Prevention and Control, fire and explosion prevention and control on ships.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Hau, Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Hai Ha commune, said that the whole commune has 415 fishing vessels, of which 270 vessels are from 6m to under 15m, mainly operating near shore. People's lives still face many difficulties. The propaganda conference will contribute to raising awareness and responsibility for fishermen in exploiting seafood in accordance with the provisions of Vietnamese law and international treaties on sea areas under Vietnam's sovereignty and sovereign rights, international and foreign sea areas; mobilizing the participation of all levels, sectors, forces and local authorities in propagating and mobilizing people to strictly comply with regulations on seafood exploitation, contributing to removing the EC's "Yellow Card" in 2024.
