Cambodian player dies at age 24 after motorbike falls into river

Cambodian national team defender Tes Sambath died in a traffic accident when the motorbike he was driving fell into the Sak Sampov River on April 21.

According to a detailed report by the Kampucheathmey (Cambodia) online newspaper, Tes Sambath was driving a Honda ADV motorbike and fell into the Sak Sampov River in Dangkor district in Phnom Penh.

His body was later found, wearing a black T-shirt, white shorts and a black backpack.

Visakha Football Club, where Tes Sambath played, announced his death. They said: "On behalf of the management, staff and players of Visakha Football Club, we are deeply saddened and shocked to receive the news of the passing of Tes Sambath.

We are all deeply saddened by this loss, he was an important sporting talent for Cambodia at this time. We would like to send our deepest condolences to Tes Sambath's family and pray for his soul to rest in peace."

Tes Sambath was born on October 20, 2000 in Ta Keo province, Cambodia. He used to play for Boeung Ket before moving to play for Visakha from 2021 to present. This defender also played 16 times for the Cambodian national team from 2021 to present.

Recent injuries have prevented this excellent defender from playing regularly and from being called up to the Cambodian national team for important tournaments.

According to Transfermarkt, Tes Sambath is valued at 50,000 euros.
