Candidates should choose their major because of their passion.
According to Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son, this year is a special milestone, when the first students studying under the 2018 general education program will take the high school graduation exam.
Regarding the new points in university admissions that are directly related to the rights of candidates, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training said that candidates using the admission method with high school transcripts should note that this year's new regulation will use the learning results of the entire 12th grade year (instead of only taking the first semester score). Therefore, compliance with the learning requirements of the high school program is very important to increase the chances of university admission.
To increase the chances of admission for candidates and ensure fairness for candidates in different regions, the Ministry of Education and Training does not limit the admission combinations. Therefore, in addition to the traditional admission combinations, training institutions can have new admission combinations.
In response to students' concerns regarding admission wishes, admission methods and conversion of scores to a common scale, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung said that in the university admission round, candidates are allowed to choose an unlimited number of admission wishes, but must be ranked in order of priority from high to low. The Ministry's general admission system will not distinguish between admission methods, so the number of admission methods in the system depends on the total number of methods proposed by the training institution in the admission plan. Candidates do not need to register for admission by method, they only need to register for the admission major. Mr. Dung advised candidates to focus on choosing the admission major that they are truly passionate about and that is suitable for their abilities, without worrying about the admission method.
Regarding the conversion of equivalent scores between admission methods, Mr. Dung said that this is a technical issue to ensure the rights of candidates. The development of a score conversion plan is the responsibility of training institutions and the Ministry of Education and Training. Candidates will receive public score conversion information before registering for admission.
