Specifically, an internet service provider (ISP) in Vietnam said that the unit managing and operating the APG (Asia-Pacific) cable line has just discovered two new incidents on this cable line.

Previously, another incident occurred on the APG submarine cable line since the end of June and has not been fixed yet. All three incidents occurred on the fiber optic cable branch connecting Vietnam to Singapore, causing serious impact on internet traffic through this submarine cable branch.

The cause of this incident has not yet been announced, nor is it clear what the plan is to repair the incident on this submarine cable.

APG is one of five important submarine optical cable lines connecting Vietnam to the world, with a total length of 10,400km, located under the Pacific Ocean, with landing points in Vietnam, China, Japan, Taiwan (China), Hong Kong (China), Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand.

The APG submarine cable line has been tested since the end of October 2016, and officially put into operation since December 2016. Several major Vietnamese network operators such as Viettel, VNPT, FPT Telecom, and CMC Telecom are all operating this cable line, so problems with the APG submarine cable line will affect internet speed in Vietnam.

Previously, in late December 2022 and early January 2023, the APG submarine cable had consecutive problems on branches S6 and S9, causing the entire internet capacity of the cable to be lost. In late March and mid-April, the above two problems were resolved, but a new error quickly appeared on branch S7, near the landing point in Da Nang.

In particular, at the end of February 2023, all 5/5 submarine optical cable lines from Vietnam to international destinations simultaneously encountered problems, which seriously affected the quality of internet services in Vietnam.

With the APG submarine cable line having continuous problems since the end of 2022 until now, the process of exploiting the internet network has encountered many difficulties. Currently, network operators have had to switch to exploiting other submarine cable lines as well as land cable lines to avoid affecting the speed of the internet network connecting from Vietnam to the world.
