With the theme "Honoring green startups", Tuoi Tre Start-up Award expects to witness the level of preparation and readiness to practice ESG in the projects that startups introduce to the program. And this is also the standard considered and evaluated in this year's criteria framework.
ESG includes Environmental factors (Environmental: factors related to the impact of start-ups on the environment, from production to consumption), Social (Social: impact on the community including both internal and external communities of the business), Governance (Governance: assessment of the governance structure and commitment of start-ups to sustainable development).
Honoring green start-ups
Journalist Tran Xuan Toan - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre Newspaper - said that starting from a golf tournament called Golf For Start-up for the startup community held in 2019, by 2023 Tuoi Tre Newspaper had developed into a startup program called Tuoi Tre Start-up Award. Thereby, many different activities within the framework of the program aimed at the startup community were organized throughout.
"This year, the program chose a theme focusing on green startup projects, continuing the series of activities in the Green Vietnam project that Tuoi Tre newspaper initiated last April," said Mr. Tran Xuan Toan.
With the theme "Honoring green startups", Tuoi Tre Start-up Award 2024 hopes to attract environmentally friendly startup ideas, creating practical values for the community. From there, it will contribute to accelerating the circular economy, towards the Government's goal of reducing net emissions to zero by 2050.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Hang - Director of the Youth Startup Support Center (BSSC) - said that compared to entrepreneurs of previous generations, young people born in the 90s and later are now very interested in green economy. Having been with the program from the beginning until now, Ms. Hang said that each year has clearly demonstrated the above trend.
"If in the past, business leaders mainly focused on the aspect of making a living, today's young people want to develop business models that both create value and develop sustainably, associated with the goal of protecting the environment. In fact, in recent times, BSSC has also received many projects aiming at a green economy" - Ms. Dieu Hang shared.

Looking for inspiring green startups
According to the organizers of Tuoi Tre Start-up Award 2024, through selecting and introducing potential start-ups, the program hopes to contribute to supporting individual start-ups, becoming a bridge to help you approach investors and start-up funds.
True to the theme and following the trend of green economic development, the program hopes to find effective green startup models that bring value to society, and further at the national level in the story of emission reduction. Therefore, the program is designed with a series of activities and content that can convey and spread the stories of startups to the community and society.
Along with communication activities, there is expected to be a talk show "Building a brand from the starting line" and a workshop "Building and positioning a sustainable brand". These two activities in the 2024 program are not beyond the goal of sharing perspectives from experts and economists, but also experiences for young people in the journey of positioning and building a brand effectively.
The program also includes the "Tuoi Tre golf tournament for start-ups 2024" golf tournament, which is expected to attract 150 golfers at Long Thanh golf course. All activities and events aim to inspire the spirit of green entrepreneurship among young people, thereby nurturing the idea and determination of green entrepreneurship in the current startup community.
Accepting applications
In 2024, the program will still have the familiar companionship of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, the Youth Startup Support Center (BSSC), the Ho Chi Minh City Young Entrepreneurs Association (YBA), the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance (PRO Vietnam), the VinaCapital Foundation, the Vietnam Sales & Marketing Directors Club (CSMO Vietnam)... and a number of experts expected to participate in the appraisal council.
Outstanding participating projects that meet the program's criteria will be communicated to readers in a variety of posting methods such as news, articles, videos, megastories, etc. For the first time, the members of the judging panel will meet and connect to understand the start-up through a very special judging format called Coffee Talk.
From there, the brightest startups will be selected to be honored at the program's gala, scheduled to be held in November 2024 at the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House. The program is currently accepting applications from projects, with a deadline of September 30 at the email address [email protected] .
4 years and 1,000 startups
