Among the 200 Good Children of Uncle Ho in 2025, which were honored by the Provincial Council of the Young Pioneers on the evening of April 14, many team members have worked hard to do good deeds and achieved high achievements in studying and scientific research. Binh Dinh Newspaper had a conversation with 3 typical team members, including: Nguyen Tran Thi (class 9A1, Hoai Chau Secondary School, Hoai Nhon Town); Do Le Tri Hao (class 7A2, My Duc Secondary School, Phu My District); Le Bao Tran (class 4C, Kim Dong Primary School, Quy Nhon City).

Passionate about research and discovery

Nguyen Tran Thi and her classmates won the third prize in the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students, school year 2024 - 2025 with the project "IoT patient health monitoring and mobility support device" - the idea of combining technology with healthcare reality. For 3 consecutive years of study (from grade 6 to grade 8), Thi has achieved the title of Excellent Student, being a Good Nephew of Uncle Ho at the provincial level for the period 2023 - 2025. Thi studies hard and researches with the dream of becoming a research technician in the medical field.

What motivated you to start the project “IoT patient health monitoring and mobility support device”?

- At first, we simply wanted to make a useful product. After visiting our homeroom teacher in the hospital, seeing her family and nurses struggling to take care of her, we realized that moving and supporting patients... all require the support of many people. From there, my friends and I came up with the idea of creating a device to support movement, adding sensors to measure heart rate, temperature and alert when there are abnormalities. My friends and I use IoT technology to send data to phones or computers, helping relatives or doctors monitor remotely. Although it is just a model, I hope my idea can develop a useful product.

The process of researching and implementing the project has probably brought me many memorable experiences...

- When I first started, I was very excited because I could assemble and tinker - my hobby since childhood. But the more I did it, the more pressure I felt. There were times when the device broke right after being assembled, I had to take it apart to fix it, then test it again. There were days when I was so discouraged that I wanted to give up, but then I tried again from the beginning. Researching and implementing this project helped me practice perseverance, learn how to proactively seek knowledge outside of books, such as reading English documents, watching technical instructions online... Things I never thought I could do.

The most memorable moment was when I brought the device to show my teacher. She was so surprised, just smiled and said she was proud of me. Seeing her happy, I believe even more that the small things I do can bring about positive changes. I know that the path to becoming a research technician in the medical field is not easy, but I am determined from now on, by studying harder, maintaining my passion and always seeking new things.

Brave action

Do Le Tri Hao is a shining example in the "Thousand Good Deeds" movement of the province's children. On the afternoon of May 10, 2024, while swimming in the sea, Hao did not hesitate to rush into the big waves with 2 other children to save students 3 years younger than him. For that action, the Central Youth Union awarded him the "Brave Youth" Badge at the end of May 2024 - a worthy reward for the bravery of the student.

Hao, do you remember the moment when you and your friends rushed out to save someone in the middle of the ocean waves?

- That afternoon, we were swimming in the sea in Phu Thu village (My Duc commune, Phu My district) when we heard a loud cry for help. Looking out, I saw several children struggling in the deep water. One child struggled to swim to shore, the other three were swept away by the waves. At that time, my friends and I only had time to look at each other and then rushed into the sea. Without saying anything, we split up and tried to bring each child to shore. Among them, two children were successfully rescued by us. One child was swept further away, I used a large piece of foam nearby as a buoy and swam out to bring him to shore. When he reached shore, adults immediately assisted him with first aid, but he was too exhausted to survive... My friends and I were very sad!

Now thinking back to that moment, I was scared because the waves were strong and swimming against the current was very tiring. But honestly, at that time, my friends and I didn't think too much, we just saw someone in trouble and jumped in to save them. I knew how to swim, but I hesitated, so who would save the children? If I could go back to that moment, I would still do the same, because the desire to save people was still greater than the fear.

From this incident, what do you think about the issue of equipping soft skills such as swimming, first aid for children...

- I think it's very important, especially for those of us who often go to the beach! Thanks to my parents teaching me how to swim since I was little, I dared to swim out to help; however, I also understand that knowing how to swim is not enough, you also have to know where the water is deep and where the danger is. Some of my friends know how to swim but are subjective, thinking it's okay, but no one can predict big waves.

I hope that agencies and units will regularly open free swimming classes, provide first aid, or equip us with skills to deal with drowning people. These skills will help us protect ourselves and help others when needed. Only then will the number of students drowning in the province decrease significantly.

Young and talented

Le Bao Tran not only stands out with her excellent academic achievements for many years in a row but also impresses with her "multi-talented" talents in various subjects. She won the bronze medal at the 2024 National Youth Chess Championship, silver medal and bronze medal at the 6th Central - Central Highlands Open Youth Chess Tournament in 2024; gold medal at the 2024 City-level T-Chess Club Chess Tournament; and also achieved the ABRSM International Piano Level 4 certificate. Spending time on chess, piano, drawing... besides studying, Tran is always excited and happy with the things she chooses.

At a young age, Tran has had outstanding achievements in chess. What makes you love this sport so much?

- I started playing chess when I was in kindergarten. At that time, my mother often showed me how to move each piece such as chariot, cannon, horse, etc. I found it interesting so I liked playing more and more. Later, when I was in first grade, I studied systematically with Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trien (Binh Dinh Province Chess Team) and from there I learned more about tactics and good chess positions. What I like most about chess is that each game is different, I have to think to find the most suitable move, so I can play chess all the time without getting bored.

The most memorable memory I have is when I participated in the National Youth Chess Championship in 2024. At that time, I was both excited and nervous because it was my first time competing far away and meeting friends from many provinces and big cities. The happiest thing was that I made many new, talented friends and learned many good moves...

How do you arrange your time to study well, play chess, learn to draw, and even practice the piano?

- Because I really love those things, I have arranged my time reasonably. Every day, I spend about 1.5 hours practicing chess, the rest is divided equally between studying and other subjects such as piano, drawing or martial arts. My parents always support me and help me make a schedule so that I don't get overloaded, reminding me to rest at the right time so I don't feel tired, I just feel very happy.

Each subject helps me learn something new. Piano helps me to be more patient and have a better sense of music. Drawing helps me to be creative, and martial arts helps me to be healthier and more courageous. Even though my schedule is full, I am happy every day because I get to do what I like and learn many interesting things!

Thank you! I hope you continue to be exemplary in your studies, worthy of the title of Uncle Ho's Good Children!
