Located on Truong Cong Dinh Street (Ward 2, Soc Trang City), the fried banana cake shop of Mr. Le Quoc Truong and his wife has always attracted customers for several years, especially becoming famous in the area thanks to its rustic livestream (live broadcast) sessions.

Sharing with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Truong said that the couple opened the fried banana cake shop in 2019.

Mr. Truong's fried banana cake shop has become a popular dining destination in Soc Trang City for several years now.

About 3 years ago, after he livestreamed to "relieve himself" via the social networking platform TikTok, the restaurant suddenly became famous, attracting many diners to come and buy fried banana cakes.

Seeing that this new business "trick" was effective, Mr. Truong decided to livestream regularly every day.

“I never thought or had the idea of livestreaming to sell products. However, in 2022, while watching the shop instead of my wife going back to her hometown, I spontaneously broadcast live, introducing the process of making fried banana cake and chatting to relieve boredom. Surprisingly, after that time, the shop accidentally became known to many people and the number of customers coming to buy cakes kept increasing,” said Mr. Truong.

According to the shop owner, in the beginning of operation, on average, the fried banana cake shop of the couple only sold about 100 - 150 pieces per day.

However, since he started livestreaming, the shop has had more customers and the number of cakes sold daily has tripled.

“When I first learned about live broadcasting, I only sold cakes. Later, when there were more customers, many people wanted to buy flour to make their own, so I sold flour separately,” the shop owner added.

Mr. Truong said that to make delicious fried banana cake requires careful preparation of ingredients.

The bananas used must be black Siamese bananas, sweet and slightly chewy. When the bananas are ripe and fragrant, the couple will use them to make cakes.

For the crust, the owner mainly uses rice flour, combined with a few different types of fried flour and spices such as turmeric powder and black sesame, following a special recipe to ensure the crust is crispy and has an attractive color.

Before frying, the bananas are flattened and spread into even pieces. Mr. Truong revealed the secret to keeping the cake from deflating or puffing up after frying is to press the bananas gently, avoiding pressing too hard as this can cause the bananas to break.

“The fried cake is puffy and golden yellow. The outer layer is crispy, the inside is soft and ripe banana, sweet and fragrant,” the owner shared.

Currently, Mr. Truong's fried banana cake shop is open from 8am to 6pm.

To prepare for 2 livestream sessions each day, he prepares flour and bananas from the morning and adds more if customers buy more.

The shop owner said that since the shop became known to many people through livestream, he sells about 300 fried banana cakes every day, equivalent to 10kg of flour and 30 bunches of bananas.

Each one costs 8,000 VND. In addition to banana cakes, the restaurant also serves fried potato cakes and flour cakes for customers from far away.
