Male patient HXM (17 years old, from Dong Nai) was taken to the hospital by his family with an itchy, red and swollen face.
Taking the patient's medical history, the patient's mother said that M. was born in the year of the Pig, so when she went to see a fortune teller, he said that she would encounter the bad star Thai Tue in 2025. In addition, M.'s eyebrows grew close together, covering the forehead and the career palace, which made her prone to bad luck and disaster. If this area was not opened, fortune would not come. Next year, M. will take the university entrance exam, and will encounter the star Thai Tue again, making the family very worried.
Following her mother's advice, M. decided to remove the hair between her eyebrows. At first, M. used a razor, but after a few days, the hair grew back thicker and harder. Then, M.'s mother bought her hair removal cream, but after 30 minutes of use, M. had an allergic reaction, her skin became itchy and swollen. M.'s mother took her to the hospital for a check-up.
On January 31, specialist doctor Phan Son Long (Department of Dermatology - Cosmetic Dermatology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City) said that M. was allergic to hair removal cream. If not treated promptly, inflammation and infection can leave ugly scars. M. was prescribed anti-allergy medication and anti-itch ointment. After a few hours, M.'s skin condition reduced swelling and itching. Doctor Long also emphasized that thin and sensitive facial skin is easily irritated by chemicals in hair removal cream, especially when used near the eye area. Using hair removal cream only cleans the outer hair, but the hair follicles underneath continue to grow in a natural cycle.
Because M.'s eyebrows were quite long and thick, her mother took M. to see Dr. Long for laser hair removal treatment, a safe method that leaves no scars. M. needed to undergo 4 treatments, each 2 to 4 weeks apart.

Similarly, Mr. PNL (33 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) also had trouble with physiognomy when he saw a mole in the corner of his eye and on the side of his nose. Many people advised him to remove it to improve his business luck. Worried, Mr. L. bought a mole removal solution himself, but after using it, the skin on the side of his nose became red, swollen, painful and oozing.
Dr. Long diagnosed Mr. L. with a chemical burn, possibly acid, causing infection. If not treated promptly, the infection can spread. The doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling medications. After 2 weeks, the wound healed and only a small scar remained. However, Mr. L. still wanted to remove the mole in the corner of his eye. Dr. Long advised using a CO2 laser to treat the mole. After protecting his eyes with specialized glasses, the mole was treated with a laser and was no longer black. After 5 days, the new skin area recovered almost completely like normal skin.
According to Dr. Long, during Tet and the beginning of the new year, the demand for physiognomy and appearance changes increases, not only among young people but also among middle-aged people. However, self-intervention in appearance such as mole removal or hair removal can cause serious complications. Although there is no scientific evidence to prove that changing appearance can improve fate, increasing self-confidence through improving appearance can help people work more effectively in work and life.
"To be safe in beauty, people should choose reputable medical facilities, with full equipment, licensed by the Ministry of Health, and a team of experienced doctors. In particular, the areas between the eyebrows, nose, and forehead are areas with many blood vessels and nerves, and are prone to complications if beauty treatments are not done properly," the doctor advised.
