From Ho Chi Minh City looking back at history

* Reporter: As a young singing group specializing in composing songs for school stages, where did you get the idea to compose this song?

- HOANG TRUNG ANH: As young people growing up in the city named after Uncle Ho, we understand that the country's position today is thanks to the great contributions and sacrifices of previous generations. Therefore, we, the young generation, want to contribute something to this important event of the country. It is very interesting that on this occasion, the Newspaper Nguoi Lao Dong organized a campaign to compose the song "The Country is Full of Joy", so we participated.

- HUY TRUONG: We chose the Rap genre to write the song "From Ho Chi Minh City, Looking Back at History". This song also had the collaboration of Zeo Music (real name Dan Huy) to compose the harmony.

* In the sacred moments that foster pride in the country's history, which moments do you choose to include in the song? Why?

- HOANG TRUNG ANH: The glorious history of the Vietnamese people with dynasties such as Dinh, Ly, Tran, Le... We review each dynasty to remind the younger generation that we do not forget the gratitude of our ancestors.

- HUY TRUONG: Uncle Ho taught: "Our people must know our history, to understand the origin of Vietnam" and we expressed this in the song "From Ho Chi Minh City looking back at history".

* Why did you two choose the rap genre to write the song "From Ho Chi Minh City Looking Back at History"?

- HOANG TRUNG ANH: I used to participate in school theater, performing Rap songs such as: "Rap nha Moc", "Du xuan ba mien", "Dong mau Lac Hong"... I once composed the song "Di va song" which included a Rap part, which was enthusiastically received by students. That was the motivation for us to compose "Tu TP Ho Chi Minh to look back at history".

- HUY TRUONG: In addition to composing rap and songs, we also perform plays. We were guided and taught by teachers: People's Artist Hong Van, Meritorious Artist Huu Chau, Artist Huu Nghia... We were fortunate to perform many historical plays such as: "Empress Duong Van Nga", "Tu Duc offers the whip", "Tran Quoc Toan goes to war"... Through that, we understand Vietnamese history better and these experiences were put into the song "From Ho Chi Minh City, looking back at history".

* Do you think young writers will be interested in the campaign and will have more new works that reflect the life of Ho Chi Minh City?

- HOANG TRUNG ANH: This creative movement is a great gift for us young composers. We have composed from the perspective of youth, turning our gratitude and admiration into melodies, into rap lines, in a new form to easily convey to our peers.

- HUY TRUONG: I think the campaign will receive many positive signals, many good musical messages written about Ho Chi Minh City.

The songwriting campaign "The Country is Full of Joy" is organized by the Lao Dong Newspaper to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). The Organizing Committee will select the 20 best works for the final round. The final round is expected to take place in February 2025. During the time of receiving works and preliminary screening, the Organizing Committee will select good works to stage and introduce at the 30th Mai Vang Awards Ceremony (around January 2025). At the same time, the Organizing Committee will also post the works on the newspaper's social networking platform to introduce to the community.
