Reading culture is our attitude and behavior towards knowledge. Therefore, to stimulate the passion for reading among young people, the Youth Union at all levels has strengthened coordination to effectively implement many meaningful and practical activities, thereby contributing to creating changes and arousing reading culture among young people.

In the past, when there were no modern audiovisual media, books were the only way for people to access information, culture, knowledge, accumulate knowledge, and enhance their thinking ability. However, with the rapid development of science and technology, the strong explosion of entertainment forms has had a significant impact on the reading culture of the community, especially the youth.
Le Phuong Ha, Dong Ve Ward (Thanh Hoa City), said: “Reading books always gives me moments of relaxation and also provides me with a lot of useful information. However, I only spend 15 to 20 minutes a day reading books through connections from my smartphone.”
Ha Thi Nga, Lam Son High School for the Gifted (Thanh Hoa City), shared: "With a phone connected to the Internet, if you want to find out some information, you only need a few minutes to access the Internet to have all the documents you want, so I think reading books does not necessarily mean sitting for hours to find them in the library."
With the strong development of digital technology, the transmission of information has become diverse in many forms such as: the internet, social networks zalo, facebook, twitter... But when asked about the ability to remember news and information on the internet, many young people are confused and hesitant. Because the news and information they read there are relatively brief, even sketchy, so they lack emotional depth, not only do not help creativity, but also gradually lose the ability to think proactively. On the other hand, the multidimensional, unorthodox nature of much information on the internet also makes readers confused, falling into information matrices. Not only that, when books on the market are diverse in genres, a part of young people find it difficult to choose books to read, not knowing which book is suitable for them, leading to many people reading books following trends, meaning that when a book is praised and advertised by the mass media, they rush to buy and read it, but then do not have enough patience to read it all or even if they read it, they do not understand the content of that book...
According to Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union Phung To Linh: "Reading culture is our attitude and behavior towards knowledge. To inspire young people's passion for reading, the Provincial Youth Union has directed all levels of the Youth Union to effectively coordinate and organize many meaningful activities such as: "Youth with Books" Festival, launching the campaign to build "Youth Bookcases following Uncle Ho's teachings"; "Love Bookcase" movement; donating bookcases to schools... which have received active support from a large number of union members and young people".
Outstandingly, at Tho Xuan District Youth Union, it is considered one of the units actively and effectively implementing the model "Youth bookcase following Uncle Ho's words", the model is always maintained and replicated by the District Youth Union throughout the district. In order for the bookcases to become rich and diverse in content and form, a large number of union members and young people have raised their responsibility to call for support for valuable books from teachers, parents and generations of former students. After a period of accumulation, the bookcase of love has become thicker every day. Foreign literature books, sex education books, and legal education books are the most read by students. Through the activity, it has encouraged and developed the reading movement in the community; at the same time, it continues to form the habit of reading in families, schools and society.
To continue building a reading culture among young people, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union Phung To Linh said: "In reality, readers have not turned their backs on books, but have just not spent much time on reading culture. In order to preserve and promote reading culture, we need to pay attention to propaganda, agitation, and promotion of books to the community; the participation of the media system. In addition, families and schools also play an important role in creating an environment for the younger generation to access books to learn about life. Activities to promote, introduce, and encourage children to find books on the media are no longer superficial but have been carried out regularly, contributing significantly to guiding children to this invaluable source of knowledge.
