The role of a cai luong actress in the movie Song Lang and then opening the non-profit cai luong troupe Thien Ly are probably the most memorable things when mentioning Tu Quyen.

Tu Quyen told Tuoi Tre: on the days when she is not singing at Thien Ly troupe, she teaches Cai Luong. Almost all of her full-time work is devoted to Cai Luong. For Tu Quyen, Cai Luong is life, and the stage is "home" even if the stage is small...
Let love come before fame and fortune
In the 1990s, the heyday of CDs and DVDs, little Tu Quyen, when she was still very young, listened to many cai luong plays broadcast on the radio, and especially liked the plays performed by the couple Vu Linh - Tai Linh. When she had a black and white TV, Tu Quyen continued to watch them sing in gorgeous costumes.
"I watched it a lot and gradually became addicted without realizing it. I was so addicted that I even took the cotton blankets at home and wrapped myself around them to pretend to be a singer. Or every time I finished dinner, I went to the back of the house and climbed the guava tree and hummed along with Ms. Tai Linh," Tu Quyen recalled.
The older Tu Quyen gets, the more passionate she becomes about singing.
She actively participated in art organizations in her hometown of Tien Giang and then worked for nearly a year at the Tien Giang General Art Troupe.
In 2015, leaving the West, Tu Quyen went to Ho Chi Minh City and studied reformed opera systematically at the University of Theater and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City.
Just graduated, Quyen participated in the national Young Talent Competition for Cai Luong and Folk Opera Actors with the performance Nguoi Cao , and Quyen won a gold medal.
For Quyen, the role of Mrs. Tu Lanh in the play The Fox is a role that leaves many people pondering: "At that time, I was over 20 years old but transformed into a character of 50 - 60 years old. I had to adjust my voice to become deeper.

Mrs. Tu Lanh is a paralyzed mother who is still passionate about the stage. She was sad to see her son, when he became famous, become a playboy and no longer love his job. She tried every way to bring him back to his job and finally she died on stage after performing the fox act again. I think that is a very beautiful thing for an artist."
Tu Quyen always cherishes the opportunity to step on stage, to perform at Thien Ly troupe... Many people often ask her where she gets the money to maintain the troupe. Tu Quyen said: "Everyone who comes to Thien Ly troupe is full of emotions, and that is greater than fame, money. The audience may come because they love the space, or because of the artists.
When I was in the troupe, I had uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, friends to help me, including people who helped with costumes. Without everyone, I would not have been able to create a troupe that lived up to my dream."

Fate is hard to end
Tu Quyen's fate with the role of actress Thuy Van in the movie Song Lang came naturally, and Quyen humorously said "it must have been the result of her profession".
Tu Quyen shared: "The casting location was a bit far from my house. That morning, I decided not to go because it was too far and I didn't know the way, but I still went because I thought I had already made an appointment.
Receiving the script from director Leon Quang Le, interestingly the name of the cai luong actress who plays with Linh Phung is also Tu Quyen. Later on in the film, it was changed to Thuy Van. Until now, I still feel extremely lucky to be involved in a meaningful film like Song Lang ".

Then, together with director Leon Quang Le, Tu Quyen established the Thien Ly cai luong troupe from film to real life. The two historical cai luong plays Monologue at Night and Queen Duong - about two real characters in Vietnamese history, Ly Chieu Hoang and Queen Thuong Duong - were very popular with audiences.
Telling Tuoi Tre the reason for choosing Tu Quyen for the role of "talented and beautiful actress" Thuy Van in Song Lang, director Leon Quang Le said: "Tu Quyen was the last person to audition. When Quyen started singing and acting as I asked, I immediately realized that this was the person I was looking for.
In addition to being quick to grasp and having a sweet voice, Tu Quyen also possesses the face of a 1980s actress.
I wanted to choose a singer that the audience who loves reformed opera is not yet familiar with, so when I met Tu Quyen, I was very satisfied."
Having been with Tu Quyen for more than 7 years, with director Leon Quang Le, Tu Quyen is an artist who loves her job and is very dedicated to art:
"As long as she continues to explore and improve her aesthetics and doesn't neglect discipline, Tu Quyen will go further."
