According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on August 17, the North had localized showers and thunderstorms.

From the night of August 18-19, the North will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with rainfall from 40-70mm, some places over 150mm.

In addition, from the afternoon of August 17-18, the Central Highlands and the South will have showers and thunderstorms, with some heavy rain and thunderstorms concentrated in the afternoon and evening.

Experts warn that from August 19-21, the Central Highlands and the South are likely to experience widespread moderate to heavy rain. From August 20, rain in the North will gradually decrease. The risk of natural disasters due to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, and hail is at level 1.

People need to be on guard against the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas. In addition, they need to be on guard against heavy rain in a short period of time causing flooding in urban areas; during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

At sea, the sea area south of the central East Sea, the South East Sea area (including Truong Sa sea area) has showers and thunderstorms. Huyen Tran island station has strong southwest wind level 5, sometimes level 6.

It is forecasted that on the night of August 17, the southern sea area in the central East Sea, the southern East Sea area (including Truong Sa sea area), the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have showers and thunderstorms.

The western sea area of ​​the South China Sea (including the western sea area of ​​Truong Sa) and the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau has strong southwest winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7-8; rough seas; waves 1.5-2.5m high, sometimes over 2.5m in thunderstorms.

Provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue will have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and at night; thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. The lowest temperature will be from 26-29 degrees Celsius.

From Da Nang to Binh Thuan in the late afternoon and at night, there will be showers and thunderstorms in some places; in thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. To proactively respond and minimize damage caused by heavy rain and the risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in areas that have experienced heavy rain recently, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control recommends that the northern mountainous provinces urgently monitor closely forecasts and warnings, and promptly inform authorities and people at all levels to proactively prevent, especially in areas that have experienced heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides recently.

Northern mountainous provinces deploy shock forces to inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams, low-lying areas, and areas at high risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides to proactively organize the evacuation of people to safe places; prepare rescue forces and means when required.

Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam and other media agencies should increase reporting on developments of heavy rain to authorities at all levels and people to proactively prevent and control; at the same time, organize serious on-duty shifts and regularly report to the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the Office of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue./.
