Accordingly, the announcement by the Thai Ministry of Interior has just shown that the new list of countries eligible for visa exemption to Thailand has increased from 57 to 93 countries. Previously, Thailand exempted visas for 57 countries and territories and visitors were allowed to stay for a maximum of 60 days.
According to Interior Ministry spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul, citizens of visa-exempt countries can visit Thailand for short-term tourism or business purposes. In addition, visitors from these countries can stay for more than 60 days. In addition, Ms. Traisuree added, students with master's visas or higher will be allowed to stay in Thailand for an additional year after graduation to find work or travel.
Also from July 15, Thailand also granted a new type of visa called Destination Thailand, aimed at "digital nomads" or freelancers and tourists who want to come to the land of golden temples to learn skills such as cooking or martial arts.
This new visa will be valid for five years and allow holders to stay for up to 180 days.
The number of foreign visitors to Thailand increased 35% from January 1 to July 7 compared to the same period in 2023, generating revenue of 858 billion baht (about 24 billion USD), according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand.
