Currently, according to the 2008 Road Traffic Law, a car driver's working time must not exceed 10 hours in a day and must not drive continuously for more than 4 hours.
Driving continuously for too long will make the driver tired, sleepy, and unsafe (Illustration: Nhat Minh).
However, Article 64 of the 2024 Law on Road Traffic Safety and Order, effective from January 1, 2025, has new regulations on working hours of drivers of commercial and internal transport vehicles as follows:
Driving time of car drivers shall not exceed 10 hours in a day and not exceed 48 hours in a week; continuous driving shall not exceed 4 hours and shall ensure relevant provisions of the Labor Code.
This regulation applies to transport business units, internal transport units and drivers of transport business and internal transport vehicles.
Thus, compared with the 2008 Road Traffic Law, the new Law has added working hours in a week for drivers of commercial and internal transport vehicles.
If violating this regulation, drivers of commercial and internal transport vehicles will be fined from 3 million VND to 5 million VND, and have their driving licenses revoked for 1 to 3 months, according to Article 23 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP.
For vehicle owners, Article 30 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP stipulates a fine of VND 8 million to VND 12 million for car owners who hand over the vehicle or allow employees to drive the vehicle beyond the prescribed time limit or work overtime.
