Proud of Quang Ninh's healthcare system.

Over the years, Quang Ninh's health sector has continuously developed, especially its medical staff who constantly improve their knowledge and skills, actively studying and researching to enhance the quality of medical examination and treatment for the people. Advanced, complex, and specialized techniques have been routinely performed by doctors, and recently, doctors, technicians, and nurses from two major hospitals, the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital and the Provincial General Hospital, successfully performed kidney transplants for patients.

The evening of April 8th marked a proud milestone for Quang Ninh's healthcare sector when medical teams from Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital and the Provincial General Hospital, in collaboration with Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, simultaneously performed two kidney transplant surgeries at the two hospitals. These are the first kidney transplants in Quang Ninh, marking a significant step forward for the province's healthcare system.

Both kidneys, taken from a brain-dead donor at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, were distributed to two patients in Quang Ninh province . One kidney was transplanted to a 41-year-old female patient from Quang Yen town, suffering from end-stage renal failure and undergoing dialysis three times a week, who was indicated for kidney transplantation at Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital. The other kidney was transplanted to a 48-year-old male patient from Cam Pha city, also suffering from end-stage renal failure and undergoing dialysis three times a week, who was indicated for kidney transplantation at the Provincial General Hospital.

With meticulous preparation of facilities, equipment, personnel arrangements, detailed planning for each situation, and high concentration from a highly skilled surgical team, the two kidney transplant surgeries at the two hospitals were successfully completed. To date, both transplanted patients are in stable condition, the transplanted kidneys are functioning well, and biochemical indicators assessing kidney function are gradually reaching normal levels, showing a positive response to treatment after surgery.

A week later, the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital performed its second kidney transplant surgery on a patient with end-stage chronic kidney disease. Unlike the two previous transplants, the kidney was taken from a living donor. The recipient was a 35-year-old male patient with end-stage kidney disease who had been undergoing dialysis for many years.

With thorough preparation in terms of facilities, equipment, and medical personnel, the kidney transplant was successfully performed. In particular, the kidney retrieval was done using modern endoscopic techniques, aiming to reduce pain and blood loss for the donor and promote faster recovery. Unlike kidney transplants from brain-dead donors, kidney transplants from living donors have their own advantages and disadvantages, requiring meticulous preparation to ensure the best possible recovery for both the donor and the recipient.

Along with the success in kidney transplantation, provincial hospitals in Quang Ninh have also successfully implemented many difficult, specialized, and modern techniques in the examination and treatment of patients. A prime example is the Provincial General Hospital, which has successfully deployed the AI Rapid software for diagnostic imaging in patients with acute ischemic stroke. This artificial intelligence software, developed by Stanford University (USA), can analyze brain images from CT or MRI scans in a very short time, from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, and provide accurate analysis of the location of the lesion, the volume of necrotic brain tissue, and areas at risk of damage in the following hours. This helps doctors make faster and more accurate treatment decisions. The application of Rapid has brought about significant improvements in the emergency care and treatment of stroke. According to statistics, the Provincial General Hospital receives 250-300 cases of stroke each year, with the majority of patients arriving after the "golden hour: the first 6 hours." Since the application of AI software, the opportunities for effective treatment for patients have been significantly expanded.

The implementation of many complex and specialized techniques has affirmed the professional expertise of the medical staff and the modern medical equipment of Quang Ninh. The successful kidney transplant will be an important foundation for the Quang Ninh health sector to continue researching and implementing more advanced techniques, expanding the scope of other organ transplants such as heart, liver, and lung transplants, providing more treatment opportunities for patients. Through this, people in the province and the region will benefit from advanced medical techniques, improving the quality of medical care at the provincial level, and significantly reducing treatment time and costs.
