316 is one of the first main divisions of the Vietnam People's Army, established on May 1, 1951, in Binh Trung commune, Cao Loc district, Lang Son province.
The 316th Division's forte is mountainous terrain and the unit always receives difficult and arduous missions. The 316th Division has four "bests": one of the fiercest battlefields; won the most glorious victories; is the unit with the longest international service period; has the highest military-civilian solidarity and international solidarity.
The glorious milestones in the history of the country associated with the resounding victories of Division 316 must include the Dien Bien Phu Victory (DBP). In this campaign, the division was assigned the task of destroying the stronghold group, destroying the enemy on hills A1, C2, C1, D1...
The battle here was extremely fierce and fierce. The first person fell, the next person rushed forward, we and the enemy fought for each gun emplacement, each meter of trench. Division 316 had the initiative to dig an underground tunnel into the heart of Hill A1, placing explosives to destroy the bunker. The person who carried it out was comrade Nguyen Van Bach, Doai village, Thanh Tru commune (the person who twice received the title of suicide soldier when once sawing a time bomb to get explosives, once detonating the explosives). The explosion of the explosives was the attack signal for the entire front to charge and destroy the enemy.
At 6:30 a.m. on May 7, 1954, the victory flag flew on the roof of De Castries bunker, the headquarters of the Dien Bien Phu stronghold. The 316th Division contributed to making Dien Bien Phu famous in five continents, shaking the world.
In the great victory of Spring 1975, from Tan Ky Nghe An, following the call of the battlefield, Division 316 marched at lightning speed, crossing thousands of kilometers through Laos into the Central Highlands, fighting the opening battle to destroy the puppet Division 23.
At 10:30 a.m. on March 11, 1975, soldiers of the 316th Division planted the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam on the roof of the headquarters of the puppet 23rd Division. This was also the time when soldiers of the division captured Colonel Vu The Quang, Deputy Commander of the puppet 23rd Division.
Being attacked by surprise, the decisive blow, the roof of the Central Highlands collapsed into large pieces. The opportunity had come, the Politburo, the Central Military Commission launched the Ho Chi Minh Campaign and the 316th Division was part of the 3rd Corps' combat formation, attacking the Northwest of Saigon, destroying the puppet 25th Division, opening wide the steel door to the West of Saigon with 5 troops entering the inner city to complete the historic mission.
Comrade Le Bach Tuyet, Head of the 316th Division Command of Vinh Yen City, said: “In the 10-year war to protect the northern border of the Fatherland, the 316th Division was assigned to fight the enemy in the directions of Phong Tho (Lai Chau), Bat Xat, Sa Pa (Hoang Lien Son), and Vi Xuyen (Ha Tuyen).
The officers and soldiers fought bravely and sacrificed to protect every inch of the sacred land of the Fatherland. In this war, Thanh Tru commune had 4 martyrs and 1 wounded soldier, contributing to beautifying the glorious flag of Division 316, writing the heroic epic of defending the country "Living on rocks to fight the enemy - Dying to become immortal stones". The name of Division 316 was the fear of the enemy in the two resistance wars against France and America, in the struggle to unify the country and the war to protect the northern border of the Fatherland...".
As officers and soldiers who had studied, trained, fought and matured from Division 316, returning to their hometown Thanh Tru, with the attention of Party committees at all levels, local authorities and people, the Association of War Veterans at all levels, the BLLTT Division 316 of Thanh Tru commune was established with 25 members.
In order to strengthen comradeship and solidarity, in recent years, the BLLTT Division 316 Thanh Tru commune has actively visited members and their relatives when they are sick, in trouble, or in difficulty; celebrated longevity for members and their parents; celebrated happiness for members' children...
The activities of showing gratitude to comrades have always been of interest to BLLTT through activities of visiting and giving gifts to mothers of martyrs and wives of martyrs on the occasion of July 27; celebrating the longevity of mothers of martyrs, paying respects to mothers of martyrs who have passed away and welcoming martyrs back to their hometown cemeteries. In addition, BLLTT also established a Golden Heart Fund to have a source of capital to support and help members develop their economy...
Returning to their homeland, each member of the Thanh Tru Division 316's Youth Union always has absolute faith in the Party's leadership, solidarity, creativity, promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, the traditions of their homeland, and the traditions of the 316th Division to build a happy, civilized, and prosperous family, locality, and homeland.
